i, grace and leo wiped the tables slowly of the empty diner, groaning.
"is my dad even gonna be able to keep this place open?" grace joked.
"are we even earning any money from this?"
"have some faith, next customer to walk in is yours, promise." he smiled at me and i winked at him jokingly. our heads sprung up like dogs when we heard the bell from the door ring open. it was vanessa. leo groaned and i ran over to her, smelling the sweet smell of chocolate.
"chocolate bars anyone?" i and leo nodded our heads enthusiastically.
"can't, i'm on a plant based diet." grace stated, smugly. she dropped her table cloth and walked over, nonetheless.
"plant based diet my ass!" vanessa mocked, shoving a chocolate bar into grace's delicate hands. grace pouted and we all shared a laugh. she slowly opened it as i ripped the wrapper of mine.
"you don't need to be on a diet, you're paper thin." leo whined, gnawing on his rich chocolate.
"i just like having control of my body weight. i don't want to add any after all." grace had always been very hard on herself about her body, maybe too hard. leo, vanessa and i were starting to notice how thin she was getting.
"so, how was the history exam, le?" i said, scrambling to change the subject.
"dreadful, i probably got like a z." i cocked my head sideways and frowned at him. knowing him he'd probably done amazing.
"and how was your latin exam?" he replied.
"meh, it was okay." i giggled, letting out a subtle sigh, i knew i'd failed. realising how silent the room was getting, i ran to the back, fetching some popcorn.
"whadda you guys say, wanna binge some gossip girl on the customer tv?" i ran in, popcorn in both hands.
"what if someone comes in?" grace asked, fiddling with the lace on her top.
"but you love gossip girl!" vanessa said, joining in on the conversation.
"yes but-"
"so it's settled, we'll watch gossip girl until a customer comes in, and then we'll serve them." i interrupted, jumping onto the couch, my best friends joining me.
two hours into gossip girl, the door swings open, i let out a silent sigh and run to the counter, as it was my turn to serve. when i turn i'm faced with jacobs two best friends, kai and greyson. greyson's curly hair was looking especially ravishing under the dim neon pink lights of the diner. greyson kept a still expression and kai smiled at me.
"hey guys, what can i get you?"
"oh my god! hey little kaelyn!" i rolled my eyes as kai put on his little act. greyson suddenly interrupted him, obviously just as annoyed as me,
"uhhh, two medium iced coffees, to stay." he said, confidently, still not breaking his still, hot, expression.
"okay. leo." i nodded in leo's direction as he got up.
"will show you to your seats." i smiled and went around the back to get their order. what was happening to me? i didn't usually feel so flustered and sweaty when talking to greyson. he's my brothers best friend, i can't develop feelings for him. but the way that oversized tee shirt fit him, it was just in the right light to faintly show his abs underneath and-
"hey kae, do you need some help?" grace's sweet voice interrupted me from my serious overthinking. i guess i did need something to distract myself. i nodded, smiling.
"i saw the way you looked at that boy." she nudged me, smirking.
"'that boy' is my brothers best friend." i laughed, her smile instantly fading.
"you like your brothers best friend!?" she practically shouted.
"keep it down will you? and no i don't like him!" i whispered, still letting out slight giggles.
"why did you keep on looking at his abs then?" she questioned, detective mode.
"i was not! i was jotting down the order!" she rolled her eyes and sarcastically said,
"sureeeee!" i playfully punched her arm and grabbed the iced coffees, bringing them out. when i walked from out the counter i suddenly felt extremely self conscious. i stumbled awkwardly over to the table and shakily placed down their drinks.
"thanks." greyson said, clicking his tongue and directing a point at me. i blushed and tried to keep my cool, smiling, i walked back to behind the counter. leo and vanessa joined me and grace behind the counter. suddenly, leo pulled me under, grace and vanessa following.
"you're drooling all over that dudes abs kae!" leo whispered, trying not to burst into laughter.
"yeah! you were blushing so hard!" vanessa joined in.
"and he's your brothers best friend!" grace added.
"wow! you guys are the best!" i whispered back, sarcastically.
"i know! which is why i've made a plan!" leo declared, i pouted. whatever he had planned, can't be good. he suddenly pulled me back up and pushed me towards the guys table, i stood there awkwardly.
"so..." greyson let out, attempting to stop the awkwardness.
"oh! i-um.. wondered if you could tutor me for latin, i seriously need help." i giggled, feeling slightly more comfortable now.
"yeah, i guess. jacob won't be happy though!" i laughed, trying to understand what he was saying.
"that i'm coming to your house for you and not for him!" ohhhhhh. k.
"yeah ha."
"so, can i get your number?" he asked, handing me his phone.
"sure!" i put in my number as "kae🌸🌊"
"cute." he smiled warmly, looking back up at me. i blushed profusely.
