I walked into the library as the stupid bird clock made a sound between a chirp and a groan. I noticed that there were no other customers as I made my way to the histroical fiction section. After picking out the bok of my new favorite Sherlock Holmes spin off series, I headed to the counter. Just like every other library in the world, the librarian was an old woman named Erma. As I looked towards the counter she usually sat behind I realized that it was defintely not her back that I was staring at. I guess I made a sound or something becuase right behind that counter, the most beautiful girl i've ever met turned around and was facing me.
Actually, to say that she was beautiful would be an understatement. She seemed to light up the gigantic library in all her glory. She had slightly tanned skin and dark curly hair that was tied up in a ponytial. Her eyes were a really dark shade of brown with a weird green undertone. Like she used to have green eyes that faded away into the dark void that were her eyes.
'May I help you?' She asked, slightly annoyed.
'Uh, yeah here.' I handed her the book. Now I wasn't the type to stutter, but while looking at her, I don't see how anyone cound handle not stuttering. She checked out my book and fished out a plastic bag from beside her.
I cleared my throat. 'Where's Erma?'
'Why do you care?' she answered tightly. Fiesty.
'Ouch. I'll have you know that woman practically raised me.' Id been coming to this library ever since I was able to read since it was the only one in my town.
'Tell that to someone who cares.' She hummed as she dropped my book in the bag and handed it to me.
'Anything else?' She asked with a forced smile.
'Your name, maybe your number too.' I smirked.
'Yeah, get out.' She turned around and began to walk into the store room that was behind the counter.
'C'mon. your name at least?' I called.
'Get out!' She called back.
'Nice name.'I muttered as i walked out.
A few hours after that my phone rang, interrupting my Sherlock Holmes reading session.
'Hey!' My friend Nick yelled. There was a lot of noise in the background. Like he was at a club with a techno-only playlist.
'Hey, where the hell are you?' I asked him.
'Im at Poppers. Kenzie's with me. Come.'
'Yeah, alright. Be there in thirty minutes.' I said and then hung up.
Popper was the club that we always went to and yes, I know that it's a ridiculous name. Like cheese pops or something. I got dressed in a white v-neck and black jeans. I opened my apartment door and jogged down the stairs that led to the door of the building I lived in. I got into my black Audi and drove to Poppers.
When I got there, it was clear that Nick was already wasted so I didn't bother saying hi to him seeing as he was talking to some girl by the bar. I noticed Kenzie sitting alone at a table. I walked over and sat beside her.
'What's up, Kenz? Why so grim?' I asked lightly.
'Oh my, god, Adam! Hey!' Se said as she wrapped an arm around me. I put my hand on the small of her back and gently pushed her away after a few seconds. Mackenzie was one of my closest friends, we've been really close ever since she moved to our small town in Connecticut. I knew she liked me though. It was obvious in everything she did. She was also really pretty with her hip-length platinum blonde hair and blue-gray eyes. She had an oval shaped face and a cute button nose. I can't say her body wasn't kick ass too. I just didn't like her for the right and I knew that she would eventually find someone better.
'Whats wrong?' I asked.
'Nick left me to get wasted with that chick over there,' she pointed to where they were standing. They were awfully close now. 'And Aaliyah had to go home because her dog died and her sister was devastated.' She pouted. Aaliyah was Mackenzie's only other friend besides me and Nick. She was also her only girl friend.
'It's alright. You wanna dance?' I held out my hand to her and she grinned. We made our way to the dance floor and danced to a couple of songs. Three songs later a really tall guy with fair skin and dark features came into view. He didn't look much older than us. He stood in front of Kenzie and flashed her a smile. They started dancing together and she didn't seem to mind but I kept watching them. After a while he put his hands on her hips and pulled her closer. I saw her body stiffen. He smirked at her but she tried to pull away. He tightened his grip and started running his hand up and down her back and just as his hands were about to reach her butt he leaned in and whispered something in her ear. I don't know what he said but it made her try to get away even harder. That's when I decided I'd seen enough. I walked up to them and wrenched her away from his grip and punched him in the jaw. He yelped out because of the pain and the sudden shift of the atmosphere. Everyone was looking at us. He looked at me with rage and punched me back. Two years of kick boxing finally kicked in. I easily dodged and punched him again. A few people moved away and scattered around us in a semi circle. I grabbed his shirt.
'Don't ever touch her like that again, got it?' I growled at him. He tried to get away but I proved to be stronger than he'd anticipated.
'Let me go.' He thrashed a little more as I finally let go of him. He punched me in the nose when Id least expected him to. I kicked him in the stomach and he stumbled and fell back a few steps but was supported by the bar that was behind him. There were a few glass shelves that had whiskey bottles on them. When he tried to punch me again I grabbed one and tried to hit him in the head with it. I was really angry now. He ducked and then somehow about a dozen whiskey bottles came flying his way. I wish I knew what happened after that but I didn't because just as the bottles hit him, I got really dizzy and blacked out.
