Everyone in the Greensville Pack has been raised up on the belief of the moon deity, Artemis, a goddess of undeniable beauty and strength. The Goddess Artemis was also the creator of the supernatural species of werewolves, a half human, half wolf hybrid. Artemis, looked down fondly on her moon children and decided to give them guidance, a sense of hope and strength, and so the werewolves were blessed with soulmates.

A seven year old Jed Cooper sat in bed ready to go to bed as his mother who was sitting on a stool next to his bedside, pulled up the covers to his shoulders and tucked him in. Beryl Cooper smiled as she brush a snowy blond lock out of her son's eyes only for him to definitely push it back. It was pale now, but Beryl knew that sooner or later the platinum curls would fade to a sandy brown just like her husband.

"Mooom! Stop playing with my hair!" Jed pouted, emphasising the baby fat on his cheeks.

Beryl put a hand over her heart acting as if the comment had wounded her. "Ah!" she exclaimed. "My baby's growing up! Soon you won't want me to tuck you in a read you bedtime stories."

Jed put on a proud smile and sat up and started to flex his nonexistent muscles beneath his stegosaurus onesie. "Uh-huh! I'm going to grow up a big and strong Alpha, like Dad! And Alphas don't need bedtime stories."

Beryl smirked at her child. "Well I guess it's a good thing you're still my little man and not the Alpha because your getting one anyways. "

Jed groaned and flopped back down onto the mattress. Beryl sat up and began plotting her tale. A wicked smile slithered onto her face. Jed began to sweat. He knew that smile well. She was about to talk about her love life.

"Have I told you how I met your father?" Beryl began. Jed groaned.

"Like a billion-gajillion times!" the small boy blurted out.

"Oh? So you know how we met?"

"Yeah, you saw each other and fell in love. I've heard that a thousand times."

Beryl contemplated this and responded. "Yes, but have I ever told you why?"

"Uhhhmmm, because you love each other?" Jed was confused.

Beryl let out a soft bellow of laughter. "Ahaha, yes that, but there is another reason as well."

Jed looked slightly interested, but only slightly.

"Well, we as werewolves, weren't just blessed with shifting, but with soulmates, too." Beryl explained to her son. Jed scrunched up his face in confusion.

"Soulmates?"

Beryl nodded. "Mhm! Soulmates, or just mates, are very special for werewolves. Every wolf has one, and only one. They could be in the same pack or from halfway across the world so when a wolf finds his mate he should never let go of them! Mates are bound forever, they are the only person that will stand by you forever. Every werewolf instinctively knows this."

"So that's why you married Dad? Because you were mates?" A nod.

"That seems stupid!" Jed proclaimed! Beryl was shocked by his rejection. "Why would you fall in love with some stranger you just met?"

"Well, of course it wasn't immediately. We went through the whole couple thing like everyone else, the mates part was just a major kickstart." Beryl tried to defend herself. Jed seemed dubious.

"Really?"

"Yes!"

"How'd you know anyways?"

A warm smile graced the middle aged woman's face. "Well there are a lot of things. When your eyes lock your heart starts beating faster, every touch is an electric shock, you just want to be near them. But what really stood out for me was smell."
