Loud music was playing. A huge room decorated to a T. Colors white, purple and light pink were staining the walls and the dance floor. The place was crowded. Everyone danced the night away wearing their formal attire.

As I was walking through the mass of people, I noticed something was off. These people moving weren't people. Something was off and definitely different.

Creepy different.

Their movements weren't graceful or as fluid as you would think with people who were supposed to be dancing. They were clipped and their bodies jerked from side to side. Trying to find my way out, someone or something noticed me. It took off its mask. Its face decaying. Even part of its skin came off while removing it, showing teeth where his smile should've been. I picked up my pace but it was too late.

Everyone started doing the exact same thing. One by one, they removed their masks, skin falling at their feet and all of them looking in my direction. I was running at this point. My breathing becoming labored. I needed to get out of here and fast. As I turned around, these creatures weren't paying any attention to me. Weird, I thought. Not that I didn't want their focus on other things besides me, just their sudden change of interest startled me.

I hear doors open. Someone entered through.

"Hail, to the King!" the creatures yelled.

They talked? I definitely missed that one.

Escaping seemed like a better and possible time now, so I backed up until my back was against the wall. Catching my breath, I observed my options of leaving and getting home. I looked in front of me. There was a window I didn't see earlier. Thinking maybe there was some vines I could climb down from. But before I could step two feet from the wall, the King as those ugly beings called him stood in front of me.

I did a double take. Wasn't he just entering the room? How did he or whoever he was get to me so quickly? I asked myself. I didn't even hear him or see him move. He was dressed in formal attire as well. Mask included. His suited him more. Much more. Like he was from a different era. Handsome. Very handsome. From what I could tell, anyway. Navy blue tuxedo, black shoes and a purple and navy blue colored tie. He took off his mask. His face and I'm assuming the rest of him was normal too but that wasn't what surprised me. It was his eyes. They were a vivid yellow, green color. His hair as dark as the midnight sky and he looked tall. I'm guessing over six foot? I couldn't really tell. It was still pretty dark in here so I couldn't make out the rest of his features but he towered over me. Everyone did.

I wish I knew his name.

I shook my head. Loosing focus here, Courtney.

I walked almost halfway around him. Careful with my pace and movements. His intriguing eyes watching my every step. Then those things were behind him. I let out an unattractive yelp. His army ready. Ready for any command the King had in store them to do. To me.

I gulped. My heart picking up speed. I turned, running for my life and tripped. Landing on my butt. Climbing back up as best as I could, I limped toward the window. Knowing they might beat me there in an instant. I had to try. I've come this far. Sort of. I have no idea how long I've been or got here. Everything happens in six seconds.

One, me running. Again.

Two, them and the King coming after me.

Three, my heart back in my throat.

Four, almost there. Almost to the window.

Five, one of these disgusting creatures in front of me. Again.

Six, it grabs my shoulders, holds me over and out the window. Yes, I wanted to escape out the window but this isn't what I had in mind. I tried not to look down. I couldn't help it. For some reason, I thought we weren't in such a tall building. The looks of it, maybe about twenty stories or more? I don't know. I'm just trying to distract myself. Seeing a clear view of the ground, Just way down there. I felt sick. Heights were never my thing.

I look over at the King and hear him order, "Drop her!"

A crease forms between my brows, I think, how could he do this to me? To us? That last question had me terribly confused. I hoped he could hear my thoughts and pull me back up.

My next thought was interrupted. Distraction settling.

The creature smiled. I didn't think that was possible. He, I'm assuming it's a he. At this point, it could be a she for all I knew. Skin and bones. Mostly bones. Skeleton like.

He or she released its hands or what was left of them and I was being thrown from the window. My screams making it seem like it was causing me to fall faster.

The darkness swallowing me whole.
