The stench of blood hung heavy in the air,it also covered my hands and cheek.A cool breeze swept over me fluttering my clothes and hair.I stood on the dark alley gazing down at the figure lying on the cobblestone clutching at his stomach where my sword had met him not long ago.
Blood pooled where he laid, his breathing had already slowed,he laid there waiting for the final blow, waiting for me to end his misery, but I couldn't be so plain, afterall I had a reputation to hold.So I waited with my sword in a loose grip and started circling him
listening to his breathing fail. His eyes were closed, the hand over his stomach fell away causing the pool of blood around him to widen. He opened his eyes, face twisted with agony, dark eyes filled with hate met mine.
"At least be clean with your job"he choked out, blood gurgled out of his mouth.
"You didn't Know,I am dealing with you in my cleanest of ways"I crooned."You will pay for this monster"he cursed.
Wearing my evil smile I said."I have and I am still paying"I raised my sword ,my eyes never leaving his, with a whoosh I brought it down.Silence filled the alley, not even a dying breath to be heard.I also felt something break inside me ,something that could never be mended.
I stood there, sword drawn and dripping and watched as the light left his eyes.I stared at his face long enough for it to be carved into my brain and turned away from another of my merciless deed, sheathing my sword I saw a lean dark figure, slipped from the shadows and grinned at me.
"You did well champion, the king would be pleased"Diem said
The king.He should be pleased,if not the consequences would be far too terrible.Pulling back my hood I faced him.
"So am I back to the trusted zone"I asked, keeping my voice cool."Nah!.It had nothing to do with trust, his highness thought that you were going soft at heart.Letting the girl live was a mistake you Know,I still wonder why you did it".
The girl.I still remember her bright blue eyes wide with fear, shifting between me and the sword raised over her head .It was at one of those raid to suppress the rebels I met her.The civilians always paid for the deeds of the rebels,to kill their spirit the king had said.
On every one of those raids I made myself not to feel my sword sinking into flesh, not to hear the cries of pain and agony and ignore the warm blood that splattered every time my sword found it's mark and each and every time I had won my little battles but gazing into the girl's eyes,so familiar for whom I had become this monster,my hands betrayed me,I cursed myself to swing that wretched sword and be done with it.But the girl's eyes broke through the wall I had created around myself ,evoking emotions which were buried deep inside me to become the king's puppet which had made me a walking dead.Though I always left one emotion on the surface, the loathing for the king and his Kingdom.
