The Rebellion

Charlie, Anna, Esther, and Betty.

I ran up the cobblestone stairs to the watchtower. Once I reached the top, I lifted the lantern I had been holding into the air. I heard the hooves of the horses and unicorns as their riders urged them toward the gate to the kingdom. 

I whistled to my griffin, Silas. He glided down from the air and landed next to me. He bent down to let me on. I placed the lantern on the edge of the tower and climbed onto Silas' back. He then leaped off the tower and glided to the courtyard where everyone was fighting.

 I leaped off and started to make my way toward my brother. A kings soldier was running toward me, I lifted my arm and then I muttered a spell under my breath. The soldier went flying backward. I smiled and looked at my hands. 

My brother, Charlie runs over to me, "Your powers are getting stronger sister." "Yes, I bet yours are to brother," I say. I feel something scrape my leg, I turn around and there is a huge Werewolf in front of me. I dodge out of the way as it leaps right where I was.

 I mutter the incantation for death and draw an x over the Werewolf. The Werewolf stops confused, then falls dead at my feet. I link arms with my brother and begin to walk over the dead bodies to get to the gate out of the kingdom. 

9 Months Earlier 

Betty's pov

I sneak past the Merchant selling bread, and into his shop. I stop at his oven and grap a couple of biscuits from the brick oven. The fire licked my hand, but I didn't feel anything. The Merchant notices me inside and runs after me yelling. I dive into the small oven and climb up the chimney.  When I reach the top of the chimney, I slide down the roof to the back of the house.

 A hand reaches for mine and I grab it. It helps me down and I recognize the face of the bully Noah. I back away as soon as I land on my feet. "Betty." He smirks. I frown, "Noah." I say back. He walks toward me and snatches the bread from my hands. 

"Hey!" I cry out. "Give that back! I stole it first." Noah smiles at me and grabs my arm as I try to grab the bread from his hand. He drops the bread, and I gasp as the warm biscuits land in the dirt.

 He pushes me against the wall of the house and puts his hand next to my head preventing me from walking away. I look at him with confusion. 

He moves his right hand toward my face to hit me but then Anna says "Oh, so that's what this is all about," she sighs. Then she mutters an incantation and his eyes roll to the back of his head. He falls to the ground, and Anna steps over him and grabs my hand. 

"Honey are you ok?" I nod my head. "What was he doing wrong, Anna?" She looks at me, "don't let him do that again." I nod my head again and look at the ground as I let her walk me home. 

~Anna's pov

Don't get me wrong, I love Betty, but she can be manipulated so easily, that's why jerks like Noah picks on her. 

Hi, I'm Anna, I am 16. I have a twin brother named Charlie who is also 16, and a step-sister named Esther who is 13, and Betty a 10-year-old who is my cousin. 

My mother died when I was young, so my dad got married to another woman who is quite nice. She is the mother of Esther. Both my biological parents are mages, that means me and Charlie are mages too. Since Betty is my cousin she is one too. Esther is unknown. 

We live in the town of Brendale, the kingdom considers us all outcasts because 100 years ago, we fought for mages rights, as well as other magical creatures rights. 

That is when the first rebellion started. When the first mages built Brendale for mages and other humans supporting magic. My grandparents were part of the rebellion, they were some of the first mages. The genes passed on to me and my brother. And Betty. 

The war is still going on. So far, we have managed to get to the outer posts of the kingdom without losing half of our army. But soon, when I turn 16, I will be able to join the council with my brother Charlie. Right now I will have to look after my cousin and step-sister.
