Gladiator

A boy, about 12 runs last me, bleeding from a cut on his arm. I looked at him as he ran to the council meeting place. They were meeting now, so whatever this boy has to say must be important.

I snuck inside the council as soon as the boy disappeared between the folds of the tent. I hid behind a barrel and listened to the boy talk.

"The south side of our defenses have fallen to a dragon. And other mysterious creatures, no one has made it out alive to tell what they are.  It I think they are elves!"

The boys eyes were wide. The council members looked at each other.

Then my father jumped to action, running out of the tent and shouting orders to any soldier nearby. "You there, gather a small scout group and head to the south of our land. Do not get into a fight. Simply scout and come back."

The soldier nodded and ran off to gather a troop. I quickly ran out after my father and I ran to find Silas. But when I reached the stables, my brother Charlie was waiting for me. He looked at me " where do you think your going Anna." I frown, "you can't stop me." "Yes I can."

He lifts his hand and opens his mouth, but I am quicker. I mutter an incantation and he is flung aside. I run into Silas' stall and jump on him. He runs out and leaps into the air.

My brother was already up and running after me. He whistled for his griffin and it dashed out of the stable toward him. He jumped on and chased after me.

My stupid sister, why couldn't she be normal so I wouldn't have to protect her all the time. I can't believe how stupid she is, flying after a scout troop to spy on mysterious elves or something.

We all know elves went extinct after humans hunted them all. It was probably a couple enchanted ghouls or werewolves. The south side is closest to the Midnight Forest. That's the scariest forest on earth.

As me and Anna come closer to the forest, we spy the troop below us. We glide down before anything spots us. We land next to the troop giving them a heart attack. "Charlie! Anna! What the hell are you doing here!?" The chief says.

Anna shrugs and I sigh. "Anna decided she wanted to risk her life. And drag me along with her." She looks at me with shock, "it was your choice to follow me." I shake my head, but out of the corner of my eye I see something blue move just the slightest.

Anna saw it too, one by one elves slit the throats of the soldiers. Me and Anna held our hands up above our heads as the elves surrounded us.

The held spears to our heads and forced us to get on the ground. I quickly slapped my griffin on the back and she flew off toward the town. The elves screeched and poked me even more. I sighed thinking this would be over soon. Oh how wrong I was.
