It forced her to witness atrocity after atrocity enacted on her family while she could do nothing but be a victim of circumstance. First, it had started with her father, a man of great importance and positive change in the city who had been taken too soon after a fatal drive-by. Then with her mother, beaten within an inch of her life all because she didn't give that mugger the money that he oh so desperately demanded. It almost touched her sister as well, but Neoma took the blows herself to save the only untainted thing left in her life.
