5 years since "The End". What is "The End" you might ask, well it is when the government decide to test a virus on a whole human city and let's just say that backfired, badly. All the people affected became zombies or zombs. They were not like your normal zombie. They were faster, smarter and adaptable. Sure they were still decaying but, some how they still were able to use they're brains but, are distracted easily.
Today just happens to be the anniversary of "The End." I was 8 when it happened, my friend 9. We were having a sleepover when we heard screaming downstairs. I got out of my room to see a zombie at the bottom of the stairs. I went back in and we packed up a few things and my friend looked out the window. There were a few zombies, we grabbed our tennis shoes and we jumped out my first story room with our backpacks in our pjs.
We managed to avoid zombies for a little while until some human people found us and took us in. We were 9 and 10 when we found out they were bad people. They would kidnap people and feed them to the zombies but, decided to keep us alive. We snuck away that night. After that we were on our own for a year, thank god that they taught us to use weapons or we would have been dead.
Then we were finally found by City 2. City 2 is one of six safe cities, the government made it just Incase the project didn't work apparently. Each city is different. City 1 is for the rich, who were warned before hand of the experiment. City 2 is like normal society before the incident but, with less crime. City 3 is for military related forces. City 4 is supplies and don't take in survivors with out a special permit. City 5 is more run downed and is most vulnerable to zombie attacks. And City 6 is what they call the fallen city. It was the city where the whole thing started. They were able to get rid of the zombies and made it a partially safe zone. The use it for science to find a cure. No one is allowed in there.
Outside each of the cities there are what they call the "War Zone." Patrols are sent to find survivors and supplies (when City 2 are hogging supplies). When we were found we said that me and my friend were siblings because we didn't want to be separated. They believed us and we went to the city. Despite us being little, they treated us like adults because they needed all the people they could get right now. We lived in an apartment building that they used for survivors to get back up on their feet. We had no one to take care of us but, the neighbors would sometimes help us out. It was rare that there was kids in any of the Cities, we except City 1. When they found kids it showed everyone hope is still there.
It has now been two years since we have been found. My friend, which her name is Nadzieja (nah-jay-ah) or Nad for short by the way, got herself a job as a person who hands out supplies when they come, which pays well and I, Zania, work as a supplies divider basically, I divide the supplies evenly for each city. I don't know the actual know the name for it but still, as long as I can help then I will.
And me and her can both say, we hate our jobs but, the only reason we got these jobs is because I'm good at math and she is awesome at P.E. She want to go out on supply runs and to be honest I want to be a nurse. I want to help people not get the virus or not get it at all. Sure I risk getting the virus and Nad would miss me and a lot of other things, but still I get to help others.
Man, that fake optimism sucks. I was being honest about the nurse thing but, I'm scared of dying to this virus. Ever since this whole thing started, I've never showed anyone my true self. Only Nad knows the real me. Ugh, I hate this place, This hole virus, everything.
"Zan, hurry up you will be late for work," Nad says. Opening my bedroom door. "Ugh," I say waking up. "We are getting promoted today and someone is going to be chosen to help the scientists," Nad said leaving my room and I realized she wasn't lying. I jump out of bed and got ready.
I got in my clothes and grabbed my knife and put it where it belonged. And I put my black and brown hair in a braid. I went into our small bathroom and brushed my teeth with our almost empty toothpaste.
