Thunder booms, lightning strikes across the gloomy sky, illuminating it for a few seconds to reveal an old faded sign hanging over a large rickety building.
    HOPE ORPHANAGE

Lightning flashes once more allowing a glimpse of a small cloaked figure balancing precariously on a windowsill.
Thunder booms once again the the heavens open and the rain begins to pour down.

"I hate the rain" I grumble to myself as I nearly slip off the slick windowsill of my attic room. Of all the times it had to rain it has to happen now when I'm trying to perform a death defying feat , of jumping from my window sill to throw roof of an abandoned shelter next to the orphanage.
As if the task of sneaking out isn't hard enough on a normal day, now this stupid rain is making everything more slippery and dangerous something which I don't appreciate , one wrong move and I'm done for.
I let go of the windowsill I'm perched on for a few seconds to wipe the sweat and rain out of my eyes, even with this hooded cloak that's supposed to shield me, I'm completely soaked and have pretty much no protection from the howling wind and pouring rain. I've only been out here for a few minutes but I'm already exhausted even though I haven't done anything yet.

The thought of going back into my damp, grimy, bare but slightly dry room flashes through my head but I shake away the thought as fast as it came knowing I can't do that to the rest or risk missing my round.
"C'mon you got this" I say to myself as I gaze at the short but deadly distance between the two buildings, it would be a lot easier of the roof of the shelter wasn't slanted and in rotting shambles.
"I've done this many times before " I mutter to myself as I ready myself for the jump, shifting my feet carefully so I'm crouched properly.
"Just go" I snap to myself placing my palms flat so as to launch myself. My heart is pounding ,the rain and perspiration blurring my vision but I know I can and have to do it.

Then I jump......., for a few seconds my cloak floats around me, the wind caressing my face and I feel free like I'm flying. The moment is broken abruptly when I plummet like a stone.  Everything goes fast as I hit the roof with a painful thump, I immediately budging slipping down the roof my hands scrambling for holds. I'm dangerously near the end when I finally grip onto one stopping my fall jarring my arm in the process.
I breathe a sigh of relief then continue my journey slowly crawling to the top gripping the remainders of where a chimney once stood trying to catch my breath heaving in air and rain making choke a bit causing me to cough.

I sigh knowing I cant stay here any longer, I throw my legs over to the other side then flip myself onto my stomach  with a grunt, then slip down the other side of the roof ignoring the stinging pain it causes. I come to a sudden stop jarring my whole body hissing in in pain. Due to circumstances I know exactly where I am standing on the edge of the roof on a jutting out piece of tile.
I bend down a bit gripping another jutting out tile near my feet then jump off the roof my legs slamming into a ladder attached to the building, my feet flail around for a bit before I'm finally able to put them firmly on a rung. The ladder is slimy , old , wet, broken but will hold.Hoping I won't slip and faly to my death I let go of the tile I was holding the quickly bend gripping the first rung I feel. Once that's done I know it will be a little easier now.

I easily scale down the ladder even though it's all wet an d slimy humming a little tune under my breath. I shake my head when a bit of rain or sweat falls into them but it only makes my god fall off.
"Crap!!" I hiss then begin to scale down faster taking care to a void missing and broken rungs. About half way down I can feel that the rest of the ladder is completely  broken off. I take a deep breath, smile and let go.
