Toby. His name rang aloud in my mind again and again. I had replayed the moment in my head so much that I was afraid it was going to stop playing, like an old vhs. We had fallen back into our old routine, occasionally chatting about things, and opening up to each other. He had told me about his unfortunate situation. Dead family, living with his "Uncle", little weird traditions. I had told him about my parents. He had brought up some things that reminded me of something I had repressed, the death of my older sister. She had died in an odd way, stabbed in the heart with a smile carved on her face and her eyelids cut off (jeff). Today though, was again a deviation. "Be looking forward to tomorrow."

"Why exactly?"

"Because I'm bringing a surprise for you."

"Okay? Weirdo." I chuckled slightly. We continued our normal routine until I was back at home. It was late. Very late. My father had not come back yet. This was worrisome, he had always come back. I decided he was just at some woman's house. I woke up the next morning and again, he was not there. Now I was starting to get really worried. I figured that maybe he was coming home soon or that he had gone and spent the day with her. I went to school. Toby gave me a beautiful silver rose necklace. I thanked him and he noticed the worry in my eyes.

 "What's wrong?"

"I... My father hasn't come home yet."

"He's probably just out with another woman."

"I guess. He's never done this before."

"Maybe he's trying something new. Dude, just relax. He's your father, he's probably fine."

"That's what worries me, there is a possibility that he's not fine. There's a possibility that someone has done something to him."

"Calm down. Don't worry until you get home. He'll be there."

 "Okay. Thank you."

"How can you still care for him even after what he does to you?"

"He's... kind of my only income source, so without him, I can't really live my life normally."

"Okay, I guess." He seemed unsatisfied with my answer. Odd. The bell rang and again, we were set off into our routine. I returned home soon after school, hoping my father would be there, but alas, he was not. I continued my routine and with each and every minute he was not home, I became more and more anxious. Eventually I went to sleep, more nervous than ever. I woke up, still no father. When... when is he coming back? What if he never comes back? Should I file a missing persons report? Where is he? What's going on? Why is he not home yet? My breathing proceeded to get faster. I was panicking. I didn't want to panic. Not over him. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop! At this point I was sobbing uncontrollably my body shaking vigorously. STOP! I heard the front door open; I hadn't locked it since yesterday. I stopped sobbing and curiously made my way into the living room. A figure stood still next to the door. That figure was not my father. I started crying again and rush into Toby's inviting arms. Surprised, he takes a moment before wrapping them around me. We stand like that for a while. Maybe even an hour. I finally look up at him with teary eyes.

"Thanks."

"No problem." I studied him closer. His glasses were up on his head, his mask off of his face, and his eyes showing no sort of emotion behind them. What's going on? "Toby," I paused,"How do you know where I live?" He freezes.

 I... live close."

"Okay... Wait. How did you know I needed comforting?" I was not at all satisfied with his answer.

"You weren't at school."

"I've been crying for that long?"

"Apparently."

"Okay."

"Do... Do you want to go lay down for a while?"

"Together?" He hesitated.

"I mean, if you want." We end up laying together in my bed. At some point we fall asleep, embracing each other. We wake up the next day and I make breakfast. He speaks up, "Do you want to come live at my house for a while?"

"What? No, I couldn't. I'd be a bother."

"You wouldn't."

"You sure? And what about your... guardians? Are they okay with this?"

"Yeah."

"I guess I could."

"Are you going to get packing then?"

"Wait. Now?"

"Of course."
