Since the war ended, this was the first time that Starflight's family could get together. He sat at a table with Mastermind, Fierceteeth, and Strongwings across from him, eating a meal of cow meat.

Turns out my horrible cooking skills came from my dad, Starflight thought as he crunched through the overcooked cow.

"What's up with the burnt meat?" Fierceteeth wrinkled her snout. Strongwings nodded heartily next to her. Starflight rolled his eyes. Strongwings always agreed with everything Fierceteeth said.

"It's not burnt," Mastermind laughed nervously. "It's well-done."

"Very well-done," Starflight muttered. He didn't need sight to know the cow must be as black as his own scales.

"Anyways, what's been going on in your lives, son and half-daughter?" The NightWing folded his talons on the tabletop and smiled. "I got out of prison."

"We know," Fierceteeth grumbled. "Me and Strongwings are going to be expecting eggs soon."

"Wonderful!" Mastermind suddenly applauded, which startled Starflight. "Maybe I could test my wing scale theory on-"

"Don't you lay a talon on my dragonets," Fierceteeth snarled. "You're not even my biological father!"

"Why Fierceteeth, I am hurt," Mastermind exclaimed. "I thought we were half-father-and-daughter!"

Fierceteeth made a growling noise at the back of her throat. Starflight inferred that Strongwings was trying to stay out of this. The tension soon settled and Mastermind turned his attention to Starflight.

"So, real biological son. How's your sweetheart doing?"

"W-what?" Starflight stammered.

"He means Sunny," Fierceteeth piped up.

"Sunny? Who's that? I mean that dear Fatespeaker," Mastermind replied.

Oh dear.

Starflight coughed uncomfortably and started, "Well I-"

"What? You mean he's not in love with Sunny?" Fierceteeth's voice rose. She then projected her voice at Strongwings. "We kidnapped the wrong girl?"

"Um-"

"You tricked us, didn't you?" Fierceteeth turned her anger onto Starflight.

"No, no, no!" Starflight held up his talons in defense. "I would never-"

"YOU DID, DIDN'T YOU?"

"No...!"

"Kids, calm down," Mastermind began to interject. "Starflight may have liked Sunny, but he's moved on."

"How do you know that?" Fierceteeth said.

"Because I ship it and that's final."

"WHAT?"

Starflight only whimpered.

Fierceteeth continued to argue, but Mastermind already turned towards Starflight. "She's a feisty one, that Fatespeaker. Kind of reminds me of Farsight; daring, brave, caring, maybe a little crazy."

"Yeah..." Starflight could feel his heartbeat accelerate.

"If you have dragonets too, can I test the gene theory on them?"

"Well..." Starflight thought for a moment. It really depends on Fatespeaker, she's pretty much the boss of our... relationship...? No wait, I mean... what?

"Yay!" Mastermind yelled suddenly. Starflight almost jumped straight up. "For science!"

Meanwhile, in the background; "Maybe that's why it failed! All this time we had the wrong dragonet!"

"Teethy, calm down..."

"YOU DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO, STRONGWINGS!"

Strongwings immediately silenced.

"I'll be excusing myself," Starflight dashed as fast as he could to the exit. As soon as he was out, he spread his wings to bolt.

Hey, I guess Fatespeaker's flying lessons were useful after all, he thought. But the hollers from the cave were still really loud. Starflight kind of felt sorry for the nearby RainWings.

I guess I'll have to deal with this dysfunctional family anyways.
