Woot! Got this chapter out in a timely manner despite coming down with the flu! I'm so proud of myself!
Before long, Snow had memorised the name of every dwarf that lived in their humble home and could tell them all apart. Perhaps it helps that she made up a song in her head about them. After waving them off to work, Snow chuckled to herself. Could it be that Rufus was starting to warm up to her or was it merely her imagination?
Suddenly, Snow remembered that she promised to meet with Kristopher today. Snow cursed under her breath for forgetting. She was quick to clean herself up, tidy the dusty purple frock she wore as best she could and Heidi naturally took notice.
"Oh don't worry, Heidi. I'm sure we can trust him."
Heidi only offered a look of scepticism.
"If he were bad news, we would know by now."
"Who would know by now?"
Snow and Heidi gasped and jolted.
"You startled us, Kristofer!" Snow complained.
"I tend to have that effect on people," Kristopher responded, almost smugly.
"No kidding," Snow said, stroking Heidi to calm her down.
"There was something I was wanting to show you today," Kristofer said, sheepishly changing the subject.
"Oh really?" Snow asked in a slightly amused voice, raising a sardonic brow.
"Follow me!" Kristofer instructed eagerly.
Snow was eager to see where this was going, so she followed him, with Heidi standing close in case Kristofer got any ideas. Before long, Kristofer lead them to a quaint little village. The people were friendly, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the flowers smelled positively radiant. It was like a dream.
"Welcome to Azalea Village. My home away from home."
"Home away from home?" Snow asked, confused.
"I grew up in the Kingdom of Deutsch." Kristofer clarified.
"Wait a minute," Snow interjected. "Your smug demeanour, prim and proper chiselled looks, immaculate hunting skills, grew up in a kingdom... I know what you are!" she declared.
"You do?" Kristofer asked nervously, almost wishing he had kept that last bit to himself.
"You're a knight!" Snow declared in a matter-of-fact manner.
Kristofer had the biggest look of relief on his face and almost forgot to respond. "AH! Yes! You caught me! I'm a Royal Knight! Ser Kristofer at your service, milady!" he stammered.
Snow chuckled, mildly amused. "Well, come on. Show me around fair knight," she offered.
There was surprisingly plenty to see in this small town, from the glistening water wheels to the radiant flowers, to the mesmerising windmill. Snow wasn't conscious of it at first but soon came to realise that she and Kristofer were holding hands. before she could react, she heard a familiar voice.
"Do my eyes deceive me? Is it truly you?"
Snow recognised the man and realised it was the royal apothecary of her kingdom and quickly panicked. "Y-yes! It is me." Snow said, looking at him as if to say "please don't let everyone know who I am here or that I'm a princess".
The apothecary picked up the hint. "Oh, you know me. How could I forget my favourite florist's daughter?"
Snow sighed of relief. Her secret was safe once more. Still, she wondered what the apothecary was doing there.
