This is chapter 1 I hope you enjoy it. BTW it is in Alex Smith P.O.V
After a while of contemplating in my office over the thoughts of marriage, I could not help but think that I had never wanted to marry. Let alone marry some one as cliché it may sound a man who I do not love. I was always the girl who did not have time for a love life and dived in to my work. I think marriage comes down to trust, how can you trust someone you do not know? When growing up my trust has been some thing, I never give away easily. Even now, probably the reason why I never do interviews, I do not like the fact people can google my life so I do not put it out there. Releasing a sigh, I stood from my chair and waltzed over to the door.
“Claire am going out I will be back in a bit.” I called to my assistant who was painting her nails in a bright red varnish.
“Yes Miss Smith what should I tell your clients.” She asked standing up from her own chair as I locked my office door.
“Don’t pick up the phone if it is important take a message.” I said before heading for the elevators. As I waited for the elevator to some down I could not help but asses my workers to my own clothes. While the women wore knee high, skirts I wore loose fitting work trousers. Where the clad the face in makeup I wore none at all. Most seemed as if they were thinking of going to the model agency across the street then to work.
“Hey babe.” A familiar voice called from beside I could not just help to smile at her joy. I did not even have to look to know that it was Jade. Jade was the first friend I made when I moved to New York I had absolutely nothing at all but she still allowed to me live with her family and got me my first job in New York. I consider as her more as family then anything even though she may have had little to give she still gave me a lot.
“Must you always call me babe?”I playfully scowled at her. She was a strong African American and beautiful at that. With her clear complexion and her high, check bones to her tall slim body.
“I always call you babe.” Was her reply as we both laughed at her horrible pout. I had to suppress the urge to tell about what my grandfather and I had talked about. I came to the conclusion it would be best if I did not put my own problems on her. It would surprise no one when I had started to build the business I had made Jade my CEO she had the right qualities and qualifications it was not a thank you for what she did for me but a way I could allow her to chase her own dreams. She knew me well enough to know when it was work friendships flew out the window.
“On your lunch break then?” she asked raising a dark brow at me before glancing at the time on my wristwatch. “Wow, you are going to have lunch at the same time I do. Your ideal lunch is what when you go home.” She asked as a smile took over her face.
Before I could answer, the elevator made a ding noise announcing its arrival as we waited for people to evacuate the elevator. There will be no point staying on, as this was the top floor. Jade stepped into the elevator first and then I followed returning hellos to my employees. “Well it seems like a beautiful day.” I told Jade trying to put on my best carefree attitude.
“Yes and when has that stopped you from working?” She asked as she took out her phone from her pocket. As no replies came to mind, none that would please her, I merely shrugged my shoulders in response.
