It began when I lost my older sister. There was this tragic incident after when she was going to a hangout with her friends. It was around ten o'clock already so it was dark. While she dashed off with her friends in her car, a sudden truck appeared. It hit against the car. It crashed. All of her friends survived, but not my sister. As my mom wept over her, she became depressed. Though, three months later, she adopted someone from Maria's Home for Adopted Children; a child who's older than me.
She was a good sister, one who would really look after me. And in no time, we were already really close. We would go to school together. But every day, people in school would make fun of us, since we're not sisters by blood. They would spread rumors that were impossible to believe, but others would believe it anyways. One day, I really couldn't contain my anger anymore. When I went home that day, I went straight to my room and started throwing pillows, punching walls and screaming at the top of my lungs. Little did I know, my sister heard me and ran up to my room. She asked me what was going on.
I immediately sobbed and hugged her. "I'm just sick of people just teasing and bullying me about you not being my sister by blood!" She looked at me with tears in her eyes, but it was obvious that she was trying to hold back her tears. She got my hands and looked at me in the eyes, saying, "My dear, sweet sister... Let me tell you a story."
"Once upon a time, God made the earth. He then made humans to live on Earth," she said. "But then most of His creations sinned and rebelled against Him that He got so angry, He made the good people angels to live with Him in heaven."
"What happened next?" I asked.
"Well," she continued. "The angels wanted to help the sinners so they lived with them until they can finally learn how to be good."
"How do you know so much about this?"
"Well, it's because I'm an angel."
"You-You never told anyone about this?!" I screamed. I was horrified of what I had just learned. My sister, an angel?
I just can't handle too much of this anymore. First, my real sister died, and now, she's an angel?! This is just too confusing.
"No, but I keep it a secret. Will you keep it as our secret?" She brushed my hair with her soft hands as my eyes felt like closing.
"I-" I made an effort to answer, but it turns out, darkness overcame the energy inside my soul as I entered a deep sleep.
The next morning, I awoke on my soft bed, my vision still hazy. I got up slowly rubbing my eyes. The morning light and chirping birds greeted me as I made my way to the bathroom to do my morning routine. A sudden feeling of shock surged through my body as I remembered something that was impossible to forget: My sister.
I ran out faster than I ever ran towards their attic, where my sister sleeps. As I opened the door, instead of seeing her beautiful face, all I saw was a bunch of boxes stacked on each other, no sign of her.I walked downstairs to the kitchen, confused and slightly worried.
Where did she go? Why didn't she tell me?
Then, I remembered the events of last night. Memories came flooding back.
I saw a note lying on the counter and tears started to spill as I read it,
"My dear sister,
I may not be here with you. But I am always in your heart."Tears rolled down my cheeks as I set down the note.
She was more than my sister.
She was a fallen angel.
