The sun rose on a new day for the Germania kingdom. Rays of sunshine streaked through Roderich's window, casting a golden glow on his sleeping form. His bed covers were a mess, but he was used to the mess by now. He began to become restless at night ever since the attack.
It was only a moth ago when the attack came. It was his father's birthday, and there was a grand ball being held. Everything was perfect. The music was beautiful, everyone was smiling, and his father looked happy.
But then it happened.
It was out of no where. A man came to his father asking for a toast, and naturally his father agreed, even though he was suspicious. However, Edward, his personal knight, took a test sip for the king only to drop dead a minute later.
Everyone had began to panic, and guards came flooding in. That's when the bandits had started to crash in.
It was all a blur, but all Roderich could remember was turning around to find his father falling to the ground, a gash across his throat, and fear and anger sparking on his eyes before disappearing with the light in his eyes.
He was able to escape with Ludwig at his side, but the massacre was imprinted in his mind. Every time he closed his eyes, all he could see were his father's lifeless ones.
Due to this, he began to have nightmares daily, and it was always of that horrid night.
There was a soft knock on his door that made him rise from his bed, rubbing his eyes tiredly. "Come in." He called, yawning. A maid entered through the door, bowing politely. "Good morning you highness. Your brother would like to talk to you." She said quietly. "Very well." He sighed, getting out of bed. The maid left and he dressed himself, walking down the hallway to the throne room, where Ludwig was.
Ludwig was a tall man with pale blonde hair and blue eyes the color of ice. He was well built, and if it wasn't for his Royal attire, anyone would have mistaken him for a guard. "Roderich, there you are." He said when he saw Roderich enter the room.
"Well, why did you call me?" Roderich asked impatiently. Ludwig sent him a glare and sighed. "I've assigned you a personal knight." He said. "WHAT?! AND YOU DIDN'T THINK TO TELL ME?!" He yelled. "Calm down, I don't understand why your so upset. He will protect you, and help you stay on schedule. Besides, he's one of our Teutonic Knights, and is around your ages too." He said. The Teutonic Knights were the best of the best at fighting. In fact, if it want for them, more people at the massacre would have died.
Roderich stayed silent. He knew not to complain when he had that information. "Fine, as long as he isn't a chore." He groaned. "Good, he's our newest one, but shows great potential. I trust him to protect you." Ludwig said. "GILBERT!" He yelled. Footsteps came rushing in and a albino boy around Roderich's age came running in.
"You called for the awesome me?" He asked. "I hate him already." Roderich whined. Ludwig ignored him and spoke to Gilbert.
"Meet Roderich, you will be his personal knight." Ludwig said. Gilbert nodded and ran up to him. "Get away from me you uncultured swine." Roderich spat, pushing Gilbert away. Gilbert only laughed. "If I'm a uncultured swine, then I must be the most awesome one there is!" He said. Roderich groaned.
"Gilbert, I am counting on you to keep my brother safe at all times. Should you fail to do so and Roderich dies, you will be executed." Ludwig said sternly, his ice blue eyes staring directly at Gilbert. Gilbert nodded. "Don't worry, I can take care of this girly-man-baby." He said with a laugh. Ludwig facepalmed, But shooed them off.
Roderich walked quickly in hopes of avoiding Gilbert, but alas, the young Teutonic Knight followed him.
"So, what's it like being a almighty girl-man-baby prince? I bet it's awesome, but not as awesome as me!" Gilbert began to blabber on about how awesome he is. 'I swear if I hear the word awesome one more time-' Roderich cut off his thoughts when he saw Matthew, the Royal assistant.
"Matthew, what is my schedule today?" He asked, startling the assistant and upsetting Gilbert.
"O-oh. Your schedule is free, but you have a meeting with your fiancé, lady Elizabeta this afternoon sir." Matthew stuttered a little while bowing. He was always shy, it was simply his nature, but ever sconce the attack, it was easier to spook him then it used to. Roderich took note of this.
"Very well then." He nodded. 'I remember when I was younger, I was used to all of the trained faces, that I was certain that's how everyone was. Yet the attach proved me wrong. It affected everyone, not just me. I guess it's refreshing to know everyone is just as human as I am.' He internally began to monologue.
"Hey. Heeeyyyy. Girly-man-baby? Listen to the awesome me when I talk out loud!" Gilbert whined. Roderich snapped out of his thoughts. "What do you want now?" He sighed. "Who is Lady Elizabeta? I never heard of her until now." He said. "You are stupid, so very stupid. Lady Elizabeta is my fiancé, as Matthew said. Her kingdom is to the south east of ours, and we have had a alliance since God knows how long ago." He explained, pushing up his glasses.
"If we have a alliance already, then what's the point in marrying her?" Gilbert asked. "Because, there was a agreement when we were both born. We may have a alliance, but the only reason ya there in the first place was because my father agreed that I would marry Elizabeta when we are of age, and ready." He said.
"Wow, So you didn't have a say?" Gilbert asked. Roderich shook his head no. "I did not." He said with a sigh. "Do you even love her though?" Gilbert asked. "What? What kind of a question is that?" Roderich asked, tuning to face Gilbert. "It isn't fair you didn't have a say in who you marry, but do you love her?" He asked.
'I don't believe it, we met five minutes ago, and he's asking me questions like this already! It's not like we've been best friends for years!' He thought angrily. "Oh shush it's none of your business, and we met five minutes ago. I have a right to say nothing!" He spat, turning away. Gilbert only laughed.
'I can't believe I only just woke up and I got roped into this.' He thought. 'Why me?'
