Demons are a type of mythic that dwells in the depths of Hell. As do I, as a matter of fact. Anyway, demons are far more comfortable within heated and humid areas like down here, thus Hell.
Hell is not simply a prison for bad human souls, rather it is an environment literally made to give the Demonic race a place to thrive and prosper. After a near extinction event, vaguely in the BC's, due to hunting by humans for our horns and cores, we were moved to Hell by our new, unnamed (at that moment he was) Devil and his partner and Deville, Artemis. Death, our Devil and the Devil still in charge now, created this whole place with all the strength and magic he could muster.
He created several layers of Hell, which got hotter and even more crushing the farther down they travelled. The first and second layer is more commonly used for trading between the mortal and demonic realm more than anything. That's where I grew up and lived. Sympathizers, humans who are aware of our existence and don't wish to harm us, often go down and stay on that floor if they wish to seek shelter in Hell.
The third, fourth, and fifth layer holds housing for demons. The Demonic city stretches through these layers. The city on the fourth layer is named Artemis, after our late Deville, due to the fact that the Devil himself occupies that layer. The cities hold entertainment such as casinos, restaurants, truly anything that can be found in the mortal realm but with the demonic flair. Jazz ricocheting off the stone walls of Hell or the concrete of buildings that stretch up to the ceiling and down through floors and stone to the next layer and the next. Truly breathtaking to live here, after growing up in the quiet suburbs of the second layer. Extraordinary. There are plenty of important buildings here, but I'll speak of them later when I can go into more detail.
The sixth layer is the prison area. It's the largest of the layers, having been made wider and longer to keep everyone in. I've never been down there myself, mostly because I don't enjoy that we have to sign a contract stating that they weren't responsible for injuries or death. The prisons house the most dastardly and horrendous of souls, one's of murderers, serial killers, rapists, abusers, and the list goes on. Most demons are afraid to set foot on that asphalt. Except for the ones who work there to torture their prisoners of course. Not a pretty place to spend time.
And finally, right underneath all of that fussy, loud, screaming mess, lies the dead zones, areas of horrendous tranquility and silence to the point that you can hear your own core beating and echoing in the empty caverns. The only things occupying that place is the lava crawling and dripping from the ceiling and the Hell Watchers. The Hell Watchers are also something that we'll talk about later. A shame that I never spoke with those old Sentients. I did go to the dead zones once, but I couldn't be there for long. The pressure was too much for me to withstand so I stayed in the elevator and viewed from there.
Those are all the levels of Hell you need to be aware of. There are mining caverns and such to the side, but we'll speak of that later along with Hell based resources. Anyhow, the denizens of Hell are just as interesting and exciting as Hell itself.
