It was 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and the air, unsurprisingly, was still rather humid.
Kite Ceroz also lived among the wealthy faction of Azure Lane, and the Ceroz house was one of the largest on the Lane as well. But tonight, as it gradually filled to the brim with kids from Kalimity High, the Ceroz house looked particularly smaller.
The Five had just arrived, four of them following after Sun as he made a beeline towards the kitchen. At the edge of a wide marble island, was a big triangular stack of various flavors of pudding.
Sun's eyes went wide and bright, his irises lighting up like shooting stars. "Guess I didn't need to bring my own." He fiddled with the vanilla pudding cup in his jacket pocket.
Mace let out a shrill noise of agreement. "Damn. Kite went all out."
Rion's eyes narrowed as he surveyed his surroundings. Chocolate, caramel, and vanilla fountains were stationed in different corners of the kitchen. A light up arrow sign pointed towards the basement that read: Small Black-light Soiree. In the living room, several old-fashioned party games were taking place: spin the bottle, Medusa, stack 'em up, speed stacker — among others.
"It does seem quite grand..." Rion murmured.
"What?" Colette and Aivie both asked him.
Rion shook his head. "Never-mind. I'm rambling. I recently switched to a new shampoo, maybe that explains it."
"Oh shit! Her hair really is blue!" Hozei and three other boys from Kalimity's soccer team, tromped over to where the Five were. "Mercer, what the hell? How come you didn't tell me you were out of the brunette phase?"
Aivie stared back at him, silently annoyed, wondering if he was secretly a child masquerading inside of an eighteen-year old.
Also seemingly annoyed, Colette answered for her instead. "Didn't you notice on the first day of school, this entire week?"
Hozei gave an effortless shrug. "Guess I missed it. You always look the same. How am I supposed to all of a sudden notice when you finally look different?" He didn't seem to notice when Aivie stuck her tongue out at him, as well as a raised middle finger.
Sun stepped closer when Hozei had turned away, lazily starting up conversation with another teammate. Two steps closer, and he caught a whiff of a familiar pungent scent. He gaped at his captain, aghast. "Were you guys drinking?"
Hozei belt out a series of shushing noises as his index finger clumsily reached for Sun's lips. "Relax, Shade. Just been having a few sips is all. I'll only have a few more, and then I'm done for the night. Captain's honor. Don't let Prez know. Heard he's got a lot on his plate these days." Sun huffed a sigh in defeat. Rion suddenly reached out and grabbed Hozei's arm, yanking it and his finger, away from Sun. "What the fuck, Chandler?"
"Did you guys know," Rion started, "that it only takes six minutes for the brain to start reacting to alcohol?" His grin was unparalleled.
"Fuck...s-seriously?" Hozei stuttered. "Sure you're not just grasping at some random-ass straws, dude?"
"I'd prefer to grasp at sticks because the texture makes it easier to do so, but yeah, I'm serious."
"Nah, I call bullshit," said the boy standing to Hozei's right. "I've had like 4 more sips than Hozei, and I feel perfectly fine."
"Well Spencer, this fact likely applies to those with regular sized brains. It might take some more time for those with smaller brains, such as yourself." the other four chuckled lowly.
Hozei barked out a laugh. "Dude, now you're just throwing shade."
"I'm throwing perfectly opened blinds, thank you very much. Take it easy for the rest of the night guys, specially you Spence."
