CHAPTER 5: SLUMBER THOUGHTS

I said my goodbyes and made my way out the shop.

"Took yu long enough." August scowled.

I rolled my eyes and made my way into the passenger seat. After adjusting the seat to my comfort, I sat back and put my seatbelt on.

"Look we both know we don't get along, so how about you only speak when spoken to." I smiled. "Got it?"

He chuckled then turned the radio on.

The ride was pretty smooth despite the devilish looks August gave me from time to time. After awhile, I started missing Braxton and decided to call him. I dialed his number and put the phone up to my ear, only for the call to go to voicemail. What the hell is he doing? I sighed and hung up the phone, making a mental note to call him later. Hearing giggling in the midst of my frustration, pulled me out of my thoughts.

"Did I miss the joke?" I asked frustratedly.

"Na."

"Well what the hell you over there 'he he heing' about?"

"You." August chuckled. "I guess you learned how to suck a rich nigga dick and switched up."

I raised my eyebrows in confusion.

"Lemme guess, He buys you all dis nice shit, tells you everything you wanna hear but barely be at home, always 'working late' and doesn't answer when Ya call?" He laughed. "Neva took you as dat type Li."

"Look you don't know me or my situati--"

"You're right." He interrupted. "I don't know you--- anymore."

I leaned my head back in frustration. I would be lying if I said what August told me didn't hurt, because it did. But I wasn't about to let it get to me. And since he was the one driving and could kick me out of his car at any moment, I just kept silent and closed my eyes until I fell into a deep slumber.

"Come onnnn Li pleaase?" Chandra begged.

"No Cha... You know ion do boats... you saw what happened in Titanic."

"I know.. Just do it for me Li." She poked her bottom lip out. "Pleaaaase?"

"Are you gonna save me if a shark attacks?" I folded my arms. "I didnt think so."

I rolled my eyes as Chandra laughed uncontrollably.

"Girl, I didnt know sharks were in 3 feet lakes." She laughed harder. "Plus August is here to save you."

I frowned realizing Cha had mislead me. She convinced me to come out to the lake with her, only for it to be a double date. I watched as her and her boyfriend Melvin got inside the boat leaving me and his little brother, August.

"You gone get in?"

"No, I would like to live to see tomorrow." I forced a faint smile.

"Come hea." he laughed. "I got you."

"Wait." I screamed. "There's no life jacket?"

"Girl if you dont bring yo ass." he grabbed my arm and pulled me inside the motorboat. "I told you, got you."

"Look I have a fear of water!"

"Do you really? Or are you just afraid to get ya hair wet?"

I laughed and tucked my head down.
