S3 E15
What SHOULD'VE happened.
Oof

At first glance,

Lucifer is a dick.

A con man, if you will.

A whore.

But anyone who has the... Pleasure of getting to know him, would know the lengths he would go to keep the ones he cares about safe.

Though he doesn't show it often, he does care for his right-hand man (or rather, woman), Mazikeen. She was with him when he ruled hell, and she's with him now, while he roams earth. She is the one person he trusts more than himself.

Maze, more than anyone, was there for Lucifer.

He needed somebody hunted, she hunted them.

He needed somebody tortured, she tortured them.

He needed a drink, she'd make it for him.

No. Questions. Asked.

Because she also knew Lucifer enough to not have to ask questions. One of the qualities he loved her for.

Lucifer loves her?

Of course he does.

Mazikeen is his best friend.

That demon was the only person he loved more than himself, before he came to earth. He only wished he had told her that.

He realizes now, that he has underappreciated Maze.

That she deserves better.

Better than the devil as a friend.

Better than not having an afterlife.

But he would not change her for the destruction of his father's creation.

The point is, Lucifer cared deeply for Mazikeen.

So when he found that she was not in a good way, he was immediately at her aid.

"You were my friend." Maze whispered, willing the tears not to fall as she stared at Linda. She stood up abruptly and stormed out of the restaurant, brushing past Lucifer and the detective on her way out.

"Maze…" Lucifer stared after her in confusion. He looked toward Chloe apologetically and followed after his friend.

"Leave me alone, Lucifer." Mazikeen growled, as she twisted a knife around in her hands. "You're not welcome here."

"In my own home?" Lucifer looked appaulled. "I hardly think that's fair." He said as he stepped out of his elevator and poured himself a drink from behind his bar.

"What do you know about 'fair,' Lucifer?" The demon scoffed before embedding the knife in the wall beside Lucifer's head.

He sighed in exasperation. "Quite a lot, I'll have you know. I am the devil, after all. You of all people should know that, Mazikeen." He smirked as he nursed the alcohol.

Maze didn't react.

"It must be worse than I thought." Lucifer strode up to his demon. "What happened?" He questioned in genuine concern, drink forgotten.

"It doesn't matter." She closed off. Maze stood up and walked out to the balcony.

Lucifer set down his drink and followed her. "You know you can't deceive me, Mazikeen. I see right through you." The smile slipped off his face.

She turned her head so Lucifer couldn't see her face.

Pathetic little Mazikeen. She thought. Crying over something as petty as a human friendship.

"Are you crying?" Lucifer furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. Never in the millennia he'd been alive (sort of), had his Maze cried

She sniffled. "No." She crossed her arms.

Lucifer chuckled in disbelief. "The great Mazikeen Smith, is crying!"

A fist hit him right in the chest and he huffed. "Sorry." He winced.

Mazikeen turned back around and looked out over the city. "Humanity blows." She growled.

"It's not all bad. Compared to the alternative?"

Maze exhaled. "I'd much rather be in hell." She whispered.

Lucifer's eyes flashed red and he turned to her. "You don't mean that." His fists clenched unconsciously, a human habit he had picked up.

Maze spun to face him in tears of anger and sadness. "Yes, I do. I wish you had never brought us here, Lucifer. I wish we had never left hell. I wouldn't have to feel all these stupid emotions. These useless human emotions!" She snapped and wiped at her eyes furiously.

"You'd rather go back to not feeling anything at all?" Lucifer gritted his teeth. "No pleasure? No happiness?"

Maze let out a sob. Her defences crashing down.

Lucifers expression softened as he lowered himself in front of her. "You want to go back?"

"Yes… no... I don't know, L-Lucifer." Maze tried to compose herself.

"If you want to go back, we will go back." He grabbed her shoulders to steady her.

She stared at him with a new fascination. "What about the detective?" Her breaths evened out.

"The one that father put in my path? Mazikeen, you are more important to me than some human that I'm going to outlive. You and I? We're forever." He stared her in the eyes.

She stared back in disbelief. "You'd really go back for me?"

Lucifer fixed her with the most serious look she's ever seen from him. "Mazikeen Smith, I would endure my own torture for you." He squeezed her shoulder for emphasis.

That one sentence tipped her over the edge. All drama with Linda forgotten as she launched herself into Lucifer who returned her embrace.

She cried into his shirt while he held her and rubbed her back.

"Shh… it'll be alright Maze." He tucked her head under his chin. "You and me forever, Mazikeen."

"You and me forever."
