When Simmons came back, the first question she asked was "Where is Fitz?"
Fitz had left weeks before Jemma came back. He had quit. He quit the team, he quit S.H.I.E.L.D, and he almost quit science. However, science was the only thing that Fitz could keep doing, as it didn't require him to talk to anyone, and it allowed him to be by himself.
