Virgil pov:

It was dark.

So extremely dark.

Then as I crept over the hill that had been covered in a thin layer of early morning dew that clung to the toes of my worn out, old shoes; I saw it.

The scene alone was enough to send shivers down your spine.

In foreground of the image was the silhouette of a tree.

This specific tree was different though.

It's branches weren't surrounded by the kind of amber, fiery leaves that you would expect to see on a tree in mid autumn.

No, this tree was long dead.

It's spindly branches protruding at every angle like the bony fingers of an elderly man on his death bed.
As the wind began to pick up and the old, withering tree swayed; you could hear it creak as it moved with the wind.

Almost as if it was talking.
Telling me to stop.

I ignored it, though, and carried on walking.

Soon enough my attention was drawn away from the thoughts that had begun swirling in my head and instead towards an oh so familiar sight.

It was a structure.

Old, broken and every now and again you would be able to hear parts of its ancient roof crumbling to the hard, stone floor bellow.

I didn't care though.

I didn't need to.

It's not like I was going to go inside anyway.

As I strode up to the ancient structure I began to feel a stinging pain in my back.

I ignored it and carried on walking.

After five minutes of walking I was out of breath but had finally reached my destination.

The castle on the hill.

This place was my safe haven.

A place where I could be myself without having to worry about anyone or anything.

I was secure.

I was protected.

This was my escape.
