I open my eyes to see the sun rays beaming through my window and onto my bed. "That's odd," I thought. " I closed those curtains last night."
I get up and slip into my fuzzy, purple slipper socks. Afterwards, I head over to the mirror and stare at my reflection. "Mom must want to talk to me about something. She usually opens the curtains to wake me up." I think reassuringly to myself, trying not to believe that my room is haunted.
Turning around, I walk towards my enormous closet and try to find something to wear. It has to be something that shows class, something that shows seriousness. After all, it is the first day of my senior year. Not only that, it's the first day of the Health Science Program that I worked my butt off since the sixth grade to get in. I finally settle on a navy blue button-down blouse with a pair of black slacks. I pull the elastics out that are holding in my two braids. After I take them out, I ruffle my long, blonde hair. Perfect as usual, I don't even have to brush it. I grab my backpack that has been pre-packed and ready for the last week and head downstairs.
When I get into the kitchen I can see that Mom and Dad are cooking their annual back to school breakfast. Claire must still be sleeping. I rolled my eyes at the thought, she always wakes up late for school. I set down my backpack next to the door, and then sit down at the table. Mom turns around and smiles, "Good morning, dear." Dad turns around and has a big smile as well. He sits down across from me and looks at mom, who can't seem to contain her giggles, then looks back at me. "Good morning, Camille. We have something to tell you." He says.
A million thoughts are running through my head. "Well, what is it?" I say, as Mom places a giant breakfast platter in front of me.
"We got you a car!" Mom practically shouts. I drop the fork back onto my plate.
"You what?!" Mom runs over to me and gives me a big squeeze.
"Oh, honey, we were going to get you a car as your graduation present, but we just couldn't wait. We are just so proud of you and all of your accomplishments!"
I stare at Dad, and then back at Mom. "Guys, I'm just like any other high school student. You don't have to brag about me or gift me for it." I say. Just then, my fourteen year old little sister, Claire, walks into the kitchen.
"Oh please," She says, rolling her eyes. "You're Captain of the cheer squad, President of your school's H.O.S.A., employee of the month since you've had your job and you are still the most popular girl in school." Claire breathes in deeply, "Anyone would kill to be you."
I smile after she's finished talking. Claire and I have always been close and she's always looked up to me as a role model. After all, she did want to follow in my foot steps. I live in a house full of brainy people. My dad is a marine biologist and my mom is a pediatric doctor. Mean while, Claire and I's dream jobs are to one day be surgeons.
"Hello, Earth to Camille!" My Dad says, waving his hand in my face. I turn red a little, as my Dad knows exactly where I wondered off to. "Thinking about your intern job at the hospital again?" I nod. "Of course!"
"Honey! Let's go outside and see your new car now." My mom shouts as she runs out the front door. I follow my parents and sister out the door quickly, stopping in my tracks as soon as I lay eyes on my new car. "Mom! Dad! You shouldn't have!" I shout, gazing at my brand new Chevy Impala. Mom and Dad hug each other and then pull me into their huddle. "We wanted to get you something reliable and something to show off as well." Mom says with a wink.
"Thank you so much. I love you guys!" I exclaim, and then turn to my sister. "Claire, if you're ready in time I'll bring you school."
Claire shrugs. "That's okay, Camille. I know you don't want to be late for your new program." Then she runs back into the house to start her breakfast. I turn to my parents and they give me the nod of approval to go and finish getting ready, so I go back inside to brush my teeth. Afterwards, I grab my bag and head towards the door. "Bye guys, see you later!" I say right before leaving and jogging over to my car.
The first thing I do when I get into my car is adjust my seat and mirrors. I start looking around and exploring it a bit, as I still have about five minutes before I have to leave. I notice that my parents have already put in a holder for my cellphone and a charger as well. I spend the next five minutes figuring out how to connect my phone to the Bluetooth on my car. Finally connected, I start driving towards my school. It's only about a ten minute drive, but twenty-five minutes if you take the school bus, which is always late. Last spring, we had a terrible wind storm that led to a tree crushing my previous car. That meant whenever my parents couldn't bring me to school, I was supposed to take the bus. Now, I have a perfect attendance record that I can not break, so I woke up ten minutes early every day and rode my bike to school so I would be on time.
I am Camille Bennett. I am a seventeen year old. I am a blonde haired, green eyed, teenaged girl. Im serious about my education, and I'm serious about my friends. My parents are very into their work. As I mentioned before, my father is a marine biologist and my mother is child physician. Both have graduated with PHD's. That is my goal some day, to be a doctor. In fact, I would like to be more than a doctor, I want to become a surgeon. I've wanted to ever since I was thirteen, when my best friend, Mia, got pushed by a stranger into a street full of cars. We live in Tampa, people do all sorts of crazy things here. Anyway, I was with her when it happened and while we waited for our parents to come, I had to stay with the doctor. The doctor who happened to be performing surgery on my best friend. Of course the doctor kept me outside of the room, he told me to not move and absolutely do not peek. But what do you expect from a thirteen year old who thinks she's about to lose her best friend? Anyway, that's when it clicked. I found it fascinating.
Now here I am, pulling into my school parking lot, where I am about to start a kickass year in my Health Science Program. This program takes up all of my periods except for the first two, where I will take AP Calculus and AP Physics. This program allows me to be an intern in a small doctors practice that is partnered with my school.
I jump out of my car and immediately see two people approaching me. "Cami!! I missed you so much."
I smile, and look up to see Mia, along with her boyfriend, Aidan. "Hey Mia. How was your two weeks in Aruba?" I asked.
"Oh it was amazingly beautiful. I took a lot of pictures that I will show you later. Oh! And I got you a sweatshirt and a cute anklet."
I gasped. "You're the bestest friend you know that?"
She smirked. "Of course I know." She tosses her jet black hair over her shoulder. "Let's go to the office and pick up our schedules."
"You don't have to tell me twice." I think as I walk into the building. I already know what I am going to be doing. Mrs. Williams is quick and hands us both our schedules. I glance at mine.

"What classes are you taking in the morning?" I ask her.
"I am taking Chemistry and then a birthing class." Mia replies, beaming. Her goal is to become a midwife. "Let's go to our homeroom." She says. I nod and follow her down the hall.
