CHAPTER ONE - FALLING THROUGH

Okay...here's my new story. I recently read the Disney version of Peter Pan to my cousin, and when I got to the part about Hook and Peter fighting, I started to wonder what it would be like if things were different. What if, for instance, the Lost Boys were not young boys but teenagers? What if Captain Hook had a different reason as to why he hated Peter? What if Wendy's character was different? What if she wasn't a kind, rich English girl...what if she had a secret? And so this story was born.
I'm still thinking of the perfect name for it, so for now I'll settle with 'Hooked'. I'm open to any suggestions, though. I really hope you guys enjoy it as I am having a fantastic time creating the characters and changing up the story a bit to give it a spark and to make it into a Young Adult novel.

Thanks for listening - or should I say, reading - my rant, guys. Vote, comment, go on Instagram for news on my books.

I trudged across the slippery, mud-covered ground, half blinded in the near blackness of the night.

The pouring rain weighed down my sodden hoodie, soaking through my shirt to the thin cotton vest I had on underneath.

More than once, my grip on the heavy shopping bags almost slipped as I tripped over a twig or stepped into an uneven rut as I walked.
And to think, all of this for twenty-seven packs of measly cigarettes that the step-bitch just had to have this evening.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my life.

As if my day couldn't get any worse, suddenly, I heard voices up ahead. I stopped walking for a moment to hear what was being said.

"Dammit! Where did it go?"

"What the hell, you stupid little fuck? You dropped it!?"

"I-I swear, I had it in my hand just a second ago-"

The voice was cut off suddenly, followed by a crack and a sharp gasp.
I had started to move again but I stopped in my tracks, debating on what to do.

Maybe trekking through the park in the middle of the night wasn't such a good idea.

"Do you know how hard it was to sneak out tonight? Fucking hard. I almost got caught. So did Dax. And you think I'm just gonna stand here and waste more of my time with a piece of shit like you because you fucking dropped it!? In the fucking rain! How the hell are we supposed to find it?" the other voice snarled.

"I'll show you what happens to pricks who mess with me. Dax, hold him down."

Bloody hell.

Okay. I was definitely not getting involved in a gang fight. No way.

I was going to walk away, and then call the police as soon as I got home. It was at times like this I wished I had a mobile.

But then the first voice whimpered.

"What are you going to do to me?"

"Nothing major. A few broken fingers, maybe. Just to teach you a lesson. Next time I won't go as easy."

The voice let out a soft sob.

And that sealed the deal.

Taking in a deep breath, I swept the wet hair out of my eyes. Then I made my way towards the source of the voices.

"Hey!"

I could barely make out three figures through the rain. All of them turned their heads towards me.
