You were never a morning person, always finding yourself sleeping in for five more minutes. And today was obviously, no different. You awoke later than intended, expecting to find a blond headed boy rummaging through your kitchen. It may sound odd, but it'd been what you'd normally awake to.
BANG
CRASH
"OWIE"
'Ah...There he is.' You think with a snort as you hear him crash into something from downstairs.
Standing up to open your closed curtains, you realize that you had woken much later then intended. The sun was already very high in the sky, although, its not like she had anything to do. It was just odd to see Chess showing up this late, he'd normally be very excited to wake you up in the mornings with breakfast he had tried to make. You quickly change into something more suitable, putting on the pink scarf Chess had given you, and your golden sweater with a comfy pair of leggings underneath. It as a bit chilly out today, although you were pretty sure you wouldn't be leaving the house unless Chess had found something interesting to do. The rest of the day went on as it normally did, you'd go downstairs to find Chess in your kitchen, and he'd tell you of his latest endeavors. Although it followed the same routine, you wouldn't say it was boring per se. Just repetitive?
After all, who could be bored around the most talkative person in the world? Especially when he told such odd and funny stories.
Today's topic was about how he had pranked one of his friends Croe. Who apparently found the boy, well, bothersome.
You could see why, since Chess did have the tendency to be mischievous.
"I'm telling you (Y/n), it was awesome! You should've seen his face, he looked like the embodiment of depression!" The blond haired boy went on and on about his latest prank, sparing you no details as the toothy grin on his face grew larger. He spoke so fondly of his other friends, and how he annoyed them so often. It sometimes made you want to meet them, but you knew that topic was one Chess disapproved of. To be honest, at this point you were sure he simply didn't want your attention off of him. Chess was like a puppy when it came to you, asking for, no. Needing all of your attention. And although you'd never seen his eyes, after all they're always covered by his blond locks, you just knew he definitely had puppy eyes no one could say no to. And those freckles to add to it? You don't think you'd be able to handle his eyes.
So you simply didn't deny his demands ...Maybe you've spoiled him a bit?
Just a bit?
Hugs, cuddles, hand holding. You obliged every time he showed his toothy smile, maybe you're just a soft hearted person.
But he's definitely more attached to you now, and you can't say that you aren't either. In a platonic way of course. You're pretty sure you have no romantic feelings whatsoever towards Chess.
A certain blond broke your train of thought with a grab of your hand, "Can we?!" he questioned with his classic Cheshire smirk.
You had no idea what he just asked, but didn't want to tell him you hadn't been listening. Even if your thoughts were technically still on him.
But, sadly it seemed he could read you like a book. As a small pout made its way onto his lips, "You weren't listening were you..? :("
You gave a guilty smile at his suspicion.
"I said.. Can we, can we maybe um.. " His voice went quiet, and you could've sworn his ears were tinged red. Causing you to let out a small snort, which only made his pout grow. "Y/nnnn.." He said, extending the ending of your name dramatically. Which only made your smile wider, you patted his head. Nodding to whatever he was trying to ask for, as if you would say no even if you knew what he wanted. This response obviously wasn't what he expected, "Y-you don't even know what i was gonna say!" He accused, his right hand pointing at you as a goofy grin made it way on his face.
You laughed once more, the boy would be the end of you.
Possibly in a literal way...
Chess let out a small chuckle, that sounded more like a giggle.
"Just meet me in front of the entrance to the forest tonight.....Kay?"
Something was odd about the way he said it, why did he sound afraid? Or was it nervous?
"Chess, you okay?" You asked, putting your hand to his cheek to check for a fever. After all, you couldn't exactly touch his forehead. He hasn't shown you his eyes, and you didn't want to make him uncomfortable. Or make him think he needs to show you. He never did tell you why, he just said he would never let anyone see them. You didn't argue at that time, and comforted him. The topic obviously wasn't a good one.
He tilted his head up at you, a sad smile on his face that caused the concern in your eyes to double.
The eyes he loved too much..
He put on a fake smile before ducking away from your hand and running out the door, all the while yelling. "SEE YOU IN FRONT OF THE FOREST BYE!"
Well that was... different.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The moonlight glistened on your skin, making it almost glow. More of a pretty way rather than eerie. You were slightly worried about what that Cheshire cat had in store for you, but thought nothing of it. Chess, as mischievous as he is, has never once pranked you.
You snorted, he really was a sweet goofball.
With that thought in mind, and a skip to your step, you made your way out of the village. Not a doubt of your best friend in mind.
That was, until you got to your destination.
There was no Chess in sight, in fact, the only other person had light pink hair. Which was indeed an odd hair color, but pretty nonetheless. You had mistaken them for your dear friend from far away, given the heights were exactly the same. But again, his hair was not blond.
You walked closer to the stranger, hoping to ask if they'd seen anyone pass.
But seeing this person up close, you realized he was wearing the same clothes as Chess.
The same exact scarf that matched your own along with it.
Has he died his hair?
"Chess?" You called out to the boy, who kept looking anywhere that wasn't you.
You frowned. Was this really not Chess? Had this person stolen the scarf? Either way, you need to confront them.
But as you made your way even closer, you find that this person... He had ears, and no not normal ones. They were long and pointy, like storybook elves.
Confusion clouded your every atom, who was this??
"Chess?" You couldn't help but ask.
The boy turned, showing cotton candy bangs that went just above his forehead. A small frown was plastered on the boys lips, he did look a lot like Chess. The same button nose, and small freckle on his chin. You had never once seen his eyes, so you couldn't say for sure that these didn't look like his. But honestly you'd never imagined chess to have golden eyes, was it a light blue that you had expected to see?
"(Y/n)..."
His gold orbs shined with fear, but of what?
Was he scared of what you might think? He knows i don't care what he looks like right?
You were so surprised that you hadn't moved a muscle, you wanted to hug him. Tell him that you actually thought he looked quite adorable like this,
He looked toward the ground, and then back up at you. You tilted your head in confusion, waiting for him to say something.
But instead, the only reply you got was a tear falling down his cheek, before he turned tail and ran.
Deeper
And deeper
Into the forest.
So obviously you followed, if your friend runs into a potentially dangerous and haunted forest, you run the fuck in there after them.
