I open my mouth to respond to the little girl but nothing comes out. I quickly pull myself together and glance at Camila to see she still looks like she is panicking. I decide to just go with it, not wanting to hurt Izzy's feeling. "Yes, honey?"
"I made you something."
"You did?" She hands me a page out of a coloring book that she has colored. "It's beautiful!" She smiles widely at me. "Thank you." I bend down to hug her and she runs off back to play. I turn my attention to the mother next to me.
"I am so sorry about that. I don't know where she got that from."
"Don't be sorry, it's okay."
"I can talk to her about it if it bothers you."
"No, it's fine." I feel her moving closer to me and she wraps her arms around my waist laying her head on my chest. I run my fingers through her soft dark locks as I start reading again.
-----
New Years was pretty uneventful. Camila has been stressing out over the court date which is tomorrow, and she has every right to be."Lauren, what if they get taken away from me?" We're both laying in bed cuddled up together after getting Jazmin and Izzy to sleep.
"That's not going to happen."
"But what if it does?"
"Then we'll do everything we can to get them back."
"I don't know what I'll do if that happens. They're my entire life."
"I know, Camz. I know. Get some sleep, we have a long day tomorrow."
"Night, Laur."
"Night, Camz." I place a lingering kiss on her lips before pecking her forehead and pulling her closer to me.
The next morning Camila is running around hectic.
"Lauren, have you seen my black heels?"
"By the bedroom door, baby."
"Thank you." She runs up the stairs to grab them as I get Izzy's shoes on her. "Ready to go?"
"Yeah." We get the girls in their car seats and I drive to the courthouse. They have a waiting room for me to stay with the girls while Camila is in the trial. I really wish I could be in there with her but she needs me to take care of her kids for her.
An hour later Camila enters the room with tears running down her face.
"Camila!" I stand up and walk towards her as she shakes her head at me. My heart drops at the realization. This cannot be happening.
"Mommy, what's wrong?"
"Come here, Izzy." I watch as Camila kneels down in front of her oldest daughter and cups her small cheeks in her hands. "You and your sister are going to go stay with Daddy for a little while."
"No, Mommy!"
"I know you don't want to baby, but this is just how it has to be for now. I know you don't understand and Mommy is so sorry angel."
I feel tears run down my cheeks watching Camila with Izzy. Camila wraps her arms around Izzy and I hear her let out a sob.
"Mommy loves you so much, okay?"
"I love you too, Mommy."
Izzy begins to cry and holds on to Camila's blouse. The door opens again and Camila's ex walks in.
"Five minutes and we're leaving."
"Mommy I don't want to go!"
"I'm so sorry baby." She lets go of Camila and runs towards me.
"Mama!" I bend down and scoop her up in my arms as Camila picks up Jazmin out of her car seat and cuddles her to her chest.
"It's okay, Izzy."
"I don't want to go! I want to stay with you and Mommy!"
"I know sweetheart, I know. I love you." I kiss her forehead and rock her back and forth.
"I loves you too."
"Alright, let's go."
Camila places Jazmin back in her car seat and I hand Izzy to her. I bend down and kiss Jazmin on the cheek. "Love you sweet girl."
Josh picks up the car seat then walks over to Camila to get Izzy.
"Mommy, no!"
"I'm sorry, baby. I'm so sorry."
Josh holds Izzy in his other arm as I stand next to Camila.
"Mommy, please no!"
Camila starts to cry harder next to me and I grab her hand in mine. Izzy reaches her hand out towards me.
"Mama, please!" I feel more tears run down my face as Josh leaves the room with them. As soon as they're out of sight Camila starts sobbing uncontrollably. I wrap my arms around her as she holds on to my shirt shaking.
"Lauren."
"I know, baby. I got you." I run my fingers through her hair trying to calm her down. "Let's go home, baby."
The drive home is silent except for Camila crying. As soon as we walk through the front door Camila heads upstairs. I follow her up and she lays in bed pulling her covers up. I crawl in beside her after kicking my heels off and pull her against me. She turns around in my arms to face me and buries her face into my neck.
"I don't understand how they could just let him take them from me."
"I don't either, sweetheart. We're going to get them back. I promise you that. No matter what it takes."
"I'm a terrible mother."
"No you're not. Don't say that. You're an amazing mother. Don't you dare even think that you are anything less for even a second."
"I miss them."
"I miss them too." I feel her press her lips against my neck as she tightens her grip on me. I run my fingers up and down her back as she slowly falls asleep in my arms.
A/N
I know this is really short, but I haven't updated in forever and wanted to at least get something up for you guys. I just got a new job so I've been really busy with that and school lately, but things are calming down so I will hopefully be back to updating regularly. I've gotten a few messages about this story of people wanting an update and everytime I get one it makes me smile. I'm glad you're enjoying this story. I hope this chapter doesn't seem like it moved too fast, but I wanted to get to a certain point before I slowed it back down again. You will see why soon. Thank you guys for reading and please let me know what you think. I love reading your feedback. Also, I hope everyone has been voting for the EMAs! I really hope the girls win tonight!
