The light of dawn broke through cracks in the wooden shutters, hitting Carne as he stirred from uncomfortable heat on his face. He forced his eyes opened. Most of his room still laid in darkness, barely disturbed by the light which only struck the surface of the bed.
Carne groaned and flipped over towards the wall.
"Carnehan!" a voice cried out from behind a door with muffled knocks barely reaching Carne's ears. "Get up! We leave for Dyhart in twenty minutes."
Carne gasped as he threw his blankets off the bed and lunged out of bed.
"Okay," he shouted. "I'll be ready in ten!"
The sound of footsteps echoed away as Carne stretched, rubbing his eyes and yawning.
Today's the day! he thought. The Food Drive, finally a chance to help!
He ran toward the dresser on the other side of the room, the only other furniture he had aside from the bathroom.
He opened the top drawers and rummaged through shirts and pants, selecting a purple shirt with a crested Willow Tree and black dress pants.
Carne grabbed his clothes and ran into the bathroom, which was conveniently located to the side of the dresser.
After completing his business, he quickly dressed himself and moved in front of the mirror.
As he stared at himself, Carne frowned and sighed. Thoughts of contempt raced through his mind about his appearance.
His black hair frizzled and curled into tight knocks in his sleep which made him wince in pain as he tried brushed them loosed.
Bags formed underneath his brown eyes, which grew to be black in shade, contrasting with his tanned skin.
His large nose sported many minuscule dots around the nostrils. Though he tried washing them out, they were more stubborn than any stains.
I wish I didn't look so... normal, he thought and sighed. Maybe I should get a tattoo or a scar. That'll make me more exciting, I think.
Carne groaned as he slapped his forehead and roled his eyes.
Carne dashed out of the room and ran out of the room and ran out of the door across from the bed. Outside his room was the common living area; to the far right, several white plush couches surrounded a wooden coffee table with bore the most lovely Zinnias on top.
Reclined against the wall next to the couches were two bookshelves packed with books from top to bottom.
A kitchen and dining area marked the left side of the room with the kitchen closest to Carne's room and the other doorways to the left of his. A large white partition, which matched the rest of the walls, divided the dining area and the kitchen with only an open counter being the window to each other.
Behind the partition was a wooden dining table accompanied by a set of six chairs. Three of them were filed, two by men and one by a woman.
"Kahrinn!" Carne said as he walked over to her. "I'm ready! Do you need me to carry anything or bring something for the drive?"
Kahrin stood beside him, her arms linked front of her partially hidden by the sleeves of her purple robe.
"Heavens child, you needed stress yourself so."
Kahrinn said as she placed her hand on Carne's shoulder. "Everything we need is already on the carriage; there's a sack of food on the counter for you, meet us outside once you get it."
