Tough Love

chapter 1

*HARU'S P.O.V.*

She doesn't know I exist. I'm nothing to her.

"Duuude! Go talk to her already!!" Shidou insists, pushing me towards her. I push back. "What?! No way! She is so popular! You know popular girls don't hang out with geeks...like me." I informed him, kicking the locker behind me, which by the way, wasn't mine.

Shidou shook his head and sighed. "Kirisaki is different. She's popular because she's nice. The other kids are popular for being snobs. And besides, Kirisaki's best friend, Ashley, is so nice."
Shidou says, leaning against a locker.

I shook my head. Why are we talking about Ashley now? "Still, she would never want to even be friends with a freak like me! I can't talk to her!" I muttered in frustration because Shidou doesn't get my point.

"Hey don't call yourself a freak! Only I get to call you that!!" Shidou shouted, playfully slapping my arm. I rolled my eyes.

"And besides," Shidou added. "You don't have to talk to her, but it makes me sick seeing you desperately want to kiss her every single day." Shidou tells me, running his hand through his flaming red hair, smirking at me.

"Shut the hell up." I grumbled, punching his arm gently.

Shidou laughs as he looks into me with his icy blue eyes. "Still though, go talk to her."
I rolled my eyes and sigh. As if.

"Hey." A voice said. I turned to face where the voice was coming from-next to Shidou.
It was Kirisaki's best friend, Ashley.

Shidou grinned at Ashley, acting all cool. "Yo Ashely. How ya doin?" He greeted, shoving his hands in the pocket of his hoodie.

"I'm doing good, I heard you mention Kirisaki's name...you guys weren't talking trash about her, right?" Ashley asked us, suspiciously looking at both of us.

I shook my head. "No, we weren't!"
Ashley breathes a sigh of relief. "Ok, that's good, but why'd you mention her name...? Does one of you maybe LIKE her...?"

I gulped. Shidou chuckles. "I don't have feelings for Kirisaki. But he might." He tells her, shoving his thumb towards my direction.

I glare at him. I could've kicked his ass.
Ashley faces me. "Really?" I shook my head hard enough to make me feel a little queasy. "N-no, I don't l-like her t-that way..." I stammer.

Ashley giggles. "No worries, your secret is safe with me." She insisted.

I kicked the ground. "I don't like her." I muttered. But nobody heard me. Shidou smiled at Ashley. "So family background is actually Canadian, right?" He asked, acting "cool".

Ashley smiles back at him and nod. "Yeah, you might find that weird since I'm going to a Japanese school. I want to learn more Japanese."

Shidou nods as if he understands her really well. "It's cool that you're attending this school. Most the people here, in Ayano High is Japanese though." Shidou informs her in a know-it-all voice.

Ashley shrugs, brushing her light brown hair back. "I know, but it's all good! I'm loving this school already and the school year started not long ago! I'm so glad I met Kirisaki, because of her, I made new friends and I'm getting used to this school and-"

Then she face palmed her forehead. "Oh sorry! I blabbed too much! I'm usually shy, but you got me talkin, Shidou." Ashley giggles, pointing to him.

I rolled my eyes. They're flirting with each other. Shidou chuckles. "What? I love talkative girls!" He jokes.

Ashley laughed and slapped Shidou playfully. "You're funny! I like you!"

Shidou's eyes widen in shock. "Y-you like m-me?!" He stuttered, pointing to himself.
I breathe out a short laugh.

It takes Ashley a few seconds to process that through her head. Then, she giggles. "I meant as a friend, silly! Don't get any weird ideas!"

Shidou looks down. "Oh, sorry." He mumbles, blushing. Ashley checks the time on her phone. "The bell's gonna ring soon, I'm going to start heading to class. See ya!" She exclaims, walking away, waving at us.

I wave back and smile. "Bye." As soon as she was gone, I turn to a red-faced Shidou. "You look flustered." I tease him. He rolls his eyes at me. "Shut up."
