The next two days were a blur to everyone. After completing all the works, Anand made a decision to know about his family and punish the culprits who were responsible for his best friend's demise. When he tried to ask Veena about their family he just got her muffled cries and teary face as reply. Having no other option, he himself searched about Vivek's relatives as he had once mentioned their native village name. What Anand found there from Vivek's family associates shocked him as Vivek along with his sister ran away from his house years ago. All those years his family tried to search them but couldn't find them. When Vivek went to a city nearby their village, his uncle recognized him and tracked him. Vivek tried his best to save his sister but at the end he lost his life in the process. In all these, Anand didn't get the exact reason which made the siblings ran away from their house when all the properties are on the siblings name and the reason why his uncle tried to take away Veena alone, harming Vivek.
Tired of thinking about these unanswered questions, he came to Veena who has been staying in their home after Vivek's demise. She was sitting along with his mother who was pleading her to drink a glass of milk.
"How are you now?" asks Anand softly eyeing her tear stained face, it's been almost 3 days he had seen her properly. Seeing him occupying seat near her ,Veena just nodded her head slightly avoiding his gaze. Everyone kept quite as Anand didn't know how to start the conversation while his mother looked at the poor girl who had been crying non-stop.
"I know this is not the right time but I need answers for few questions then only I will be able to do justice for Vivek." said Anand looking at Veena while she stared at him sadly.
"Will you answer me?" asked Anand not getting any reply from her. Veena shook her head which made a drop of tears fall on this palm.
"Why did you and Vivek ran from your house when you two were the owners of all your properties?"
Veena bent her head and sat there quietly looking at her palm while her eyes were filled with fresh tears.
"Anand, this is not the right time. We will talk later." says his mother looking at Veena.
"No Maa, if we delay sometime more time the culprits might find a way to escape." answered Anand looking at Veena who wiped her tears and looked at him.
"Will you tell me everything that has happened?" asked Anand expectantly.
They both looked at each other for a minute and Veena broke the eye contact and started talking.
"After my parent's death in an accident, our grand father took our responsibility and we were happy with him as tried his best to take care of us like our parents. Soon our aunt and uncle who were living in some other state managing their business came to our home and begged my grandfather to provide a shelter for them as they lost all their wealth because of loss incurred in their business.Expecting them to take care of us our grandfather let them in, they used to love us like their children but knowing about their greedy nature for money, my grandfather always kept them at distance when it came to money and business matters.This never made them show any indifference towards us; slowly grandfather started to trust them. After few months, he fell ill and was bed ridden. By this time, they gained complete trust of our grandfather and he handed over everything to my uncle and aunt,that is when they started showing their true nature. Slowly our grandfather's health started deteriorating, but he wasn't aware of the ill treatment towards us as in front of him they used to act nice with us but they never let us meet him alone. After our grandfather's sudden death, they felt relieved that they will be the sole owners of the properties. That gave them more strength, situations got worse for us. Sometimes they used to beat and curse us saying they got us as burden and out of pity they are letting us stay in their home. Bhai tried to fight them but every time they used to blackmail bhai that they will harm me which made him keep calm and focus on protecting me. One day uncle tried to sell a property, that is when he got to know that grandfather wrote power of attorney and as per his instruction our family lawyer tired to kept it as secret till bhai turns 18 years. Soon they found those documents and was furious to know that our grandfather didn't write a penny on their name.For our future and safety, our grand father wrote that will but because of that they started to plot to kill bhai." said Veena remembering her childhood where she used to fear about everything , her only hope and support was her brother who took care of her like a mother and father. Now she lost her only support, remembering this she started crying again.
