*Hey guys, this is my first story, so if you have any questions or have any tips I would really appreciate it. I hope you guys enjoy😁*

POV: Sam

Sometimes I wake up forgetting I live in this nightmare. There are those few seconds I forget where I am, and just lay with my eyes closed. Floating in complete darkness. savoring the blank void. Then I open my eyes and am instantly hit with memories of sorrow. I remember the screams of the people that once had never known fear or terror. I remember the smell of burning flesh. I remember her. the way her eyes drained of all life. I watched the light dim in her eyes, and with it my own.

Its truly strange to wake up every morning to something that makes you want to never wake up. But i do. For those of us that remain. For the community that took me in. I wake so that someday when i do finally fall into deaths arms. I will have fallen fighting for my people; Fighting for those who fell before their time.

As I sit up, I am met with a nauseous feeling, my vision swims and my head makes me miss the days when aspirin was in surplus. During the scavenge of the next ghost town over, I came across a moonshine vendor. What can I say? Its hard times continuously in this community. We find our entertainment where we can.

I throw on some worn out black skinny jeans, and a grey tank top. I pair this with my black leather jacket, and black combat boots stolen from a military surplus store out on the border of Cali. I throw my hair into a ponytail, and run out of my room. Which is ultimately just a small room dug into the side of the dirt tunnel, with some cloth and cotton down, serving as a bed. I wasn't able to make it to breakfast so i ran down the hall into our training bunker.

We had different levels of training depending on which age group you were in. I'm certain cases you could also be placed into a different age group if your power type was stronger. I was currently in one of the elite training squads. I harnessed the power of transference. I could take the powers I came in contact with, amplify them and use them as my own. I am one of the only known users of this power type.

The only downside of this power is that in the occurrence that I cannot come into contact with another magic user then I would be left with no powers. Which meant that if someone knew my power. Then the only way to actually take me down was to fight me physically. Too bad i'm also a bad-ass fighter.

I slip in, almost unnoticed, seen only by the one person I didn't want to be spotted by. My squad leader makes his way over to me, and I prepare my best confusion face.

"Where were you?",he asks.

"I have no idea what you're talking about", I respond playing the confused card.

He rolls his eyes knowing that the only thing his questions would earn him were sarcasm and a lot of mock confusion.

"Hector noticed your absence, act confused all you want, but he definitely will make an example of you. most likely, when he notices you slid in here"

"Yeah right, Hector loves me. Plus I'm like his best student".

He chuckled. "Yeah right, I can take you out with both my hands tied behind my back"

I snicker, remembering the last time i laid him out.

"that's big talk for someone who has been on his ass more times than on his feet, whenever he fights me"

Our laughter brings the attention of our class Teacher. Hector notices me and gestures to me.

"Nice of you to join us. Have ourselves a little party last night did we?", gesturing to my obviously hungover state.

"I have no idea what you're referring to, sensei", I say pretending not to know.

Shaking his head he walks away. Leaving Mason in awe. The teacher always had a sweet spot for me.

Sensei walks into the center of the classroom which is basically just a huge underground cavern lined with weapons, and a number of fighting rinks. He introduces himself to our new members.

"Welcome to the Elite fighting class. You will address me as Sensei. This class is nothing like your other classes. You will give me 110% or it may end up costing you your life out there"

There's a long silence that follows his speech. " Today, there will be a demonstration, since we have newcomers. Sam, Mason. Step up to the rink."

I give Mason a a devilish smirk. "Hope you brought your blanky, because you're gonna need a little comfort after this beat down". He snorted, " we'll see, runt"

We make our way up to the front. I brush past one of the newcomers, shoving into their shoulder. The blonde boy yelps and mumbles disgruntedly after I continue to walk forward. I take my stance. Choosing my signature tiger stance.

I can feel the new comers powers rushing through every cell in my body. The feeling overtakes me. Warming me from the inside out. His power is unfamiliar. But I don't let that make me panic. I steady myself preparing my mind, and body.

I have never lost a single fight and I will not start now. Those words repeat over and over in my head. I will be the best. I will not lose. For her.

I've been saving this trick for a while. I can tell he isn't expecting me to use magic by the smile openly plastered on his face.

I close my eyes once again. Opening them only to the sound of begin. There is a moment of silence interrupted only by the sound of masons battle cry. His footsteps echo through the room joined, marched only by the sound of magic rushing thought my ears.

He trusts his physical strength, knowing that if he uses his power then I will also be able to use it against him. I put one step forward and breathe out slowly. Everything moves in slow motion as I raise my hand.
