Alexandra POV
I stand silently amongst the others. People surround me on all sides. There is silence among most of the students save for a few here and there. They all seem to be waiting for something. Unfortunately the boy next to me is not one of the silent students. He just doesn't seem to stop talking. All heads turn as an older bald man steps forward, he doesn't seem to be much appearance wise but something he exuded power. I could smell it from where I was standing.
His his voice boomed across the room. Demanding attention. "Welcome to the Elite fighting class. You will address me as Sensei. This class is nothing like your other classes. You will give me 110% or it may end up costing you your life out there".
Silence rang through the whole of the arena. He continued, "Today, there will be a demonstration, since we have newcomers. Sam, Mason. Step up to the rink"
A big blonde guy popped up, His head bobbing above all other heads. He must have been 7 ft something. Physically he looked impressive, but I knew that physical wasn't all there was to this world.
He strutted forward followed by a girl. I couldn't see her due to his size, but I assumed that was Sam. She weaves out from behind him taking a strange path through the crowd.
My eyes switch past her onto the big guy who was now already in the center of the arena. A strange smell hit me, grabbing my attention. It surrounded me, engulfed all of my senses. But just as it had come, it had left.
The girl passed us shoving the talkative boy next to me. The sweet scent seemed to have passed just as she had come through. But surely I was mistaken. It could've been anyone around me. At least that's what I told myself.
The boy next to me stumbled at the impact of her shoulder. He yelps and mumbles some nasty things. But she continues up anyways.
They both face each other, the girls back to me. Her exposed skin was covered in scars, burn scars marred her left shoulder. Barely hidden by the tank top she wore.
Her opponent takes his stance. A confident smile stretched across his face. It is typical of other magic users to be able to sense the change in magic in another user. But I couldn't sense any change in his magic.
The girl who seemed to have not even a drop of magic a few moments ago, was harnessing quite a bit now, and doing something I've never seen before. Her magic was growing within her. Her levels reaching crazy levels.
Her body showed no signs of what was taking place within. Shoulders steady, her stance unfaltering. If not trained correctly, the magic if it reached unsafe levels could take a toll on the user. But she showed no signs whatsoever.
The awed faces surrounding me confirmed just what I was thinking. This girl was powerful. Dangerous. Exactly what we had been looking for.
"Begin"
The man pounced forward. The confusion that quickly flashed across his face was instead replaced with the same confidence from earlier.
But just as he had stepped forward, the girl had done the same, vines reached from the floor as her hand shot out, rapping around his ankles. They reached upward, beginning to encase his body in their stems. He shredded through them with the knife from his hip.
The talkative boy next to me gasped, "she has the same magic as me", in the moment it didn't mean anything to me but what happened next would help me understand better what was happening.
Confusion overtook the group at the lack of magic. He used weapons of man instead of the powers he was gifted with. Every vine thrown his way was sliced down as he ran toward the girl.
Vines shot from the ceiling as well, grabbing his attention as he defended himself, there was a blur of black hair as the girl shot forward, she raised her knee, grabbing the mans wrist and placing her hand on his shoulder. She whipped her leg backwards, connecting with the mans calf and used his falling momentum to knock him to the ground.
His back hit the ground with a painful thud, just as soon as his back hit the ground vines wrapped up from the ground, mummifying his body. The girl removed herself as flames shot from the mans body. She dodged the balls of flame as they came at her.
Jumping to his feet, he continued to launch balls of Fire at the girl. I was surprised at the animosity and unconcern for the others safety. I've been in a few of these underground groups, and I've never seen anything like it.
Every fireball was met with a wall of vines. She glanced at her watch and looked surprised at the time. She sighed and shrugged, her entire aura changed. Her magic levels spiked, fire covered vines began to shoot from the ground.
They wrapped around the mans feet but when he tried to burn them off nothing happened. The fire surrounding them acted as a protective shield. Can't burn away fire. The once again encased the man from head to toe but this time he did not break free.
His body was frozen. Unmoving in time. The fire had hardened the vines and kept them protected from the mans fire. Scorch marks littered the ground. There were holes burned into the walls. A protective barrier protected the students from harm.
All of the newcomers gaped at the sight of the damage. The girl barely moved from her original spot. She once again checked her watch. A few seconds later the flame that was protecting the vines died out and without the only thing keeping it in place, the vines withered. Falling from the mans body.
When the vines fell from his face, they revealed him with a hug smile on his face. He laughed heartily. "Damn it, I thought for sure I would get you this time".
He brushed off the ash from his clothing. Shoving her playfully. She chuckled a little and turned to face us. It was the first time I had been able to clearly see her face.
My body froze as my heart stopped beating. No! Not here! It couldn't be. My souls felt as though it were going to leave my body and join hers. My animalistic side told me to go to her. My mind and body battled with each other. Both unmovable.
My heart raced as I took in her everything. From her long silky black hair, to her soft looking skin, covered in thin white scars. Her slender body was covered in muscles, the burn on her shoulder was the only thing that stood apart from her perfection. But even that I yearned to touch. She was beautiful.
Her eyes scanned the newcomers, locking with mine. I saw something in her change. Her body stiffened. Her eyes widened with what looked like sadness then fear. I saw her beautiful grey eyes roll back, and her body fell limp.
My body acted before I could stop myself, i sprinted forward and caught her before she hit the ground. The skin of her shoulders, resting against my own. Her body was warm against my own. Her face so much more beautiful the closer I got. As I held her, I was pulled back into reality by a deep voice.
It was the man that she had fought, he grabbed her from my arms and lifted her up. Running over to the sensei. It took all I had not to control myself. What was I doing? I had a mission and I needed to stick to the plan. Infiltrate the underground colony, gain their trust, and then eliminate them. This changes nothing.
I have to do this. For my people.
