Prologue
I have always had strange dreams, but nothing quite like the one I had last night. It all started on a bridge in New York.
”Come on! Melissa! We’re gonna be late!” I tugged on her arm.
“Oh, calm down Adam.” She laughed.
“It’s raining Mel!”
“Oh, sorry I didn’t realize that you were the Wicked Witch of the West.”
“Please, I can’t be late for school again!” I pulled at her sleeve.
“School will start regardless of us being there.” She giggled and peered over the side of the bridge. She was a risk taker, so I held on tight to her arm. She noticed my tensing up and leaned further over.
“Scared I’m gonna jump?” She teased.
“Don’t even joke.” Tears sprang to my eyes as my sister’s face appeared in my mind. I was hurt, so I let go of her wrist. She had been pulling against me, so she slipped forward and tumbled over the edge. I screamed and reached for her hand, but it was too late.
You’re probably wondering, “What is so strange about that dream,” or “It’s just a nightmare.” Well, here’s the strange part. I don’t know anyone named Melissa, I don’t have a sister, and I’ve never been to New York. Yet, I felt the feelings clearly as my own and I recognized things I shouldn’t have been able to recognize. Also, no one else had been around, no one witnessed it, and if I did my research correctly, we had been standing on the busiest bridge in New York. Everything had felt old, like 1950’s based on the fact that the girl named Melissa was wearing a poodle skirt. Like I said, it was strange. Oh and I didn't even tell you the weirdest part, my name isn't Adam.
