Chapter 1
Peacefull woods
It was the perfect time of morning. The birds were still sleeping the night animals starting to turn in. There was still hours left till dawn, not even the hunters were in the woods yet. She had the woods to herself and she loved it. The only thing up at this hour was the people that worked the grave yard shift and they weren't I the woods. Walking in the woods this time of morning was peaceful and gave her the chance to to reflect on recent events and work out the future without interruption. The past couple of weeks had given her plenty to reflect upon. Two weeks ago she had been working at the factory just a mile away on night shift. There was this cute guy Johnathan that she had been wanting to ask her out. He was one of those people that most ignored. He had a kindness that she noticed and saw the value of. He always had a smile for her when he walked by. She would have asked him out but knew that his boyfriend had broken up with him recently. Before she got the chance to ask she got fired. Typical of things the one day she didn't do a complete check on the equipment second shift had left a bolt loose. When she started the machine after all no one was supposed to mess with the inside components so why check them, the loose bolt shot out and broke the robot arm. Now no job and no Johnathan. She reminder herself that it would have been hard to keep her secret if she had gone out with him. Technically she wasn't exactly human. Jasmine was actually a member of the P?sare de Noapte. A race of people that been around longer than the humans. Increase strength and dexterity along with ability to harness magie were some of the traits that defined the difference between the two races along with an incredibly long life span. The average life span for a P?sare de Noapte was around 500 years. Not immortal but definitely lengthy. Her sister Sure (pronounced sir e) had told her that Johnathan would betray her if he found out, but Jasmine had her doubts. There was a new guy about a month ago who had gotten his shirt covered in grease when a fitting had busted. The line foreman had refused to let the poor guy go home and change. Somehow Johnathan had found out and gone to his car where he kept a spare shirt and given it to the guy so he wouldn't have to wear grease all shift. Didn't seem like the kind of guy that would betray a friend. Plus there was something about him that made her think that maybe just maybe he wasn't purely human either. He had this ability to blend in and be overlooked when he wanted to. He didn't disappear exactly more of just wasn't noticed. Doesn't matter now she was fired and would probably never see him again. She had never gotten around to finding out where he lived. What she didn't realize was that she was about to see him again real soon when she would find him bleeding out. Her thoughts went to how it was that she was in this country so far away from her native country of Romania. She was born the crown Prentens?. Her family had ruled over the Night walkers for over two thousand years. The burden of being the next queen was not one she wanted to bear and had abdicated her position to her younger sister Sure. Her dad was upset but soon accepted her decision as Sure showed great prowess in the fields of diplomacy and politics. Jasmine had wanted to join the Noapte R?zboinic and become a Dragon Cavaler. The Noapte R?zboinic was their peoples military and the Dragon Cavaleri were the elite corps within the R?zboinic. Unlike some countries the R?zboinic didn't care about lineage or education. What the R?zboinic cared about was talent willingness to train and skill. The idea of being judged not a s a princess but based on what she was able to do was appealing. Jasmine had been training as a warrior since her eight birthday. Her Great Uncle was also in the Noapte R?zboinic and had risen in the ranks while his older brother became king. Upon her eighteenth birthday when she would normally leave for two years abroad to study different cultures she joined the R?zboinic. During primary training she impressed her instructors with her determination to be the best she could be. Graduating first in her class earned her the right to choose her first training location. The R?zboinic spent two years training outside of the country learning other countries fighting styles. After two years abroad, one year was spent assisting in the trials where hopefuls applied to be accepted by the R?zboinic. She had spent her two years in Japan learning both ninjitsu and jujitsu. The year she spent with the trials was exhausting. Every couple of months they would travel to different parts of Romania where groups of P?sare de Noapte lived and conduct trials. The ones who passed would be given rudimentary training at their home city and then sent to the capital str?lucitoare stea. She was scheduled to spend the next two years in bodyguard training after her succesful application to join the increased training for the Dragon Cavaler. Her sister turned eighteen that year and decided she was going to America. All royalty are entitled to an escort of Cavaler rank when traveling abroad and of course she was assigned to travel with her. In order to blend in better she was required to get a job to disguise the fact that Sure was a royal. Jasmine no longer had the officail title of her majesty which suiter her just fine she now had a better title; Dragon Cavaler. You had to earn that title not be born to it. Her sister Sure was obsessed with finding the missing Latorian family. Fifty years back the Latorian family had split from the Pasare de Noapte over difference in politics. The current patriarch of the Latorian family, Frindere wanted to live in a democracy and so had packed up the family and left with his wife and son. Their son was a trouble maker always in trouble so most said good ridance. When Sure learned about it in her studies of the royal families, she became obsessed with finding them. The Latorians were once rulers over the second Pasare de Noapte country. Dridmere was the king of Lumina. Deciding that the kingdom was too small to stay self sufficeint and desiring not to continue a monarchy he stepped down from the throne and allowed his people to rule themselves. Several had come with the Latarians to Romania while several others stayed in what is now Translvania. On the bright side if Sure did find the missing family they could return sooner to Romania. Unfortunately she was going to have to look for another job soon to maintain their cover identity. A cry interupted her thoughts. It took her a minute to realize the cry was only in her head not outloud. Only another P?sare de Noapte was capable of that kind of silet cry. It was the cry of someone who had given up on life. She started rushing toward where she thought it was coming from. Soon she heard someone else walking in the forest and then a thud as whoever it was fell. Soon she came to the spot and saw Johnatan lying on the ground bleeding from his wrists. As he faded into unconsciousness he spoke one more word into her mind "angel". Johnathan was a Pasare de Noapte? No way was she going to let him die. Hoping she wasn't too late she bit her wrist and let it flow into his mouth. This was why people thought they were vampires, thier blood contained healing properties. Contrary to common belief they did not bite humans it would only work between other P?sare de Noaptes a humans blood would nothing but make them sick at the stomach. Johnathan still wasn't moving, oh God was she too late? "NO you must live" she screamed.
