Return To Mother Base

"All ready to go?" Snake asked me.

I took one final look at my "home" I made in a cave long ago when Mother Base fell.

"Yeah, it'll be good to go back home." I said to him.

He called in Pequod as we walked out into the hot air of Afghanistan. He pulled his scarf over his mouth and nose to protect himself from the blowing sand, I pulled up my collar and put my bandanna over the bottom half of my face and put my sunglasses on to shield my eyes.

"So how long have you been looking for me?" He asked me.

"A few months, heard about a soldier taking out an entire military base without being detected." I said to him as we walked closer to an open area for Pequod to land.

"So you decided to just send out a radio signal and sit and wait for me?"

"Well I had my suspicions at first but the more I heard about this "soldier" taking down bases and kidnapping friendly soldiers it started to dawn on me that you could've survived so I did a little investigation."

"And you deduced that it was actually me?"

"I'm not that smart, somebody just got a photo of you, it was blurry but the body structure and movement you were making confirmed that it was you."

He chuckled as Pequod began to make a landing.

"Seems I'm still a bit rusty after sleeping for nine years!" He noted.

"I'm sure you'll be back to perfect in due time!" I shouted back to him.

The doors opened on the side of the chopper and Snake and I climbed in.

"I see you found him Ahab, good hunting?" Pequod asked.

"He hid the cave pretty good but it wasn't too difficult, well minus the spike traps." He said.

"I did warn you about them over the radio." I told Snake.

He simply grunted as sat down on one of the seats at the back of the chopper.

"Back to base?" Pequod asked.

Snake nodded as he lit up a cigar, it was nice to see that even after nine years in a coma he was still the same old Boss I knew. The chopper began to rise into the air, I couldn't help but stare out the window, it had been so long since I had been this high up, it left liberating to be off the ground again.

"So what got you back into action after so long?" I asked Snake.

"XOF."

I immediately went quiet as anger grew over my mind. They were the ones who took my family from me, they ruined everything.

"They tried to kill you?" I asked while staring out the window.

"Sent an assassin after me, she nearly got me but she ended up needing to step outside after she was engulfed in flames." Snake told me with a puff from his cigar.

"You set her on fire?"

He took a deep breath in then let the smoke out into the air.

"Something like that."

I didn't really think too much into it, it was Snake after all so naturally he'd do whatever needed to be done.

I watched as we flew over solid ground which eventually fell away to reveal the open ocean.

"So how salvageable was Mother Base?" I asked.

"Small sections were able to be re-used but majority of it had to be rebuilt from the ground up, if you want a full manifest you'll have to ask Kaz." Snake told me.

I nodded and we continued on our journey back to Mother Base, I thought it'd be best to get a bit of rest before we arrived there since I hadn't slept for a couple days.

*Timeskip*

I awoke to the chopper slowing down and lowering onto something, I looked out the window and noticed that it was dark out now, must have been a long flight.

"We have arrived back at base, I'll go get re-fuelled for the next mission Ahab." Pequod said to Snake as he pulled the side door open.

"Won't be till morning so get some sleep." Snake told him before we climbed out.

We stepped forward as Pequod rose up off the landing pad and flew away.

"Well long time no see." I heard a familiar voice say.

I turned around and saw Kaz standing there looking to me, he looked a bit worse for wear, he had lost and arm and leg but other than that he seemed to be handling it quite well.

"How have you been Kaz?" I asked as I walked over and shook his hand.

"Busy, but I suppose that means I've got less time to dwell on the past then." He said to me.

"Well hopefully we'll get some amount of payback soon enough."

Kaz nodded his head as I heard another pair of footsteps walk over, but these ones were different, it sounded like cowboy boots.

"So this is the famous "Deadly Banshee", you look like you got potential for the Diamond Dogs." The cowboy told me.

"Y/N this is Ocelot, he'll be helping us out till we can get everything back up and running like how it used to be." Kaz told me.

"I help train the troops but from what I hear you won't need any training." Ocelot said to be as I shook his hand.

"Nothing wrong with taking a quick refresher lesson." I said to him.

"I'd be more than happy to give you a refresher."

I turned back as Snake walked over to us and put his hand on my shoulder.

"And to think the last I saw you was when you were only nineteen, still so young, but now look at you." Snake said as he pat my shoulder.

"Not just a boy anymore." I said back with a smile.

"You never really were to start off with, you were always one of our best men." Kaz told me.

"Well could one of your best men trouble you for a bed for the night?"

Ocelot motioned for me to follow him to the barracks.

"I'll wake you at 0800 hours." Snake told me.

"I'll be up by then." I said back.

I followed Ocelot to the barracks where he allocated me a bed to sleep in for the night.

"Thanks Ocelot." I said to him and I put my pistol in the locker next to my bed.

"Get some rest, got some training to do tomorrow." He told me.

I nodded and we walked out as I climbed onto my mattress to have a sleep for the night. It was almost surreal being back here because last time I saw it I was floating away on a piece of debris, but it was nice to see it all back up and running again. I closed my eyes and rolled onto my side as I allowed sleep to envelope me for the night.
