It was a cold morning, still dark, as I walk outside. My hands get cold instantly and my teeth start to chatter. His car pulls up and I jump inside. We are officially late because of him and I was angry, not that he noticed. He was a typical boy, only worried about himself. It was as if he didn't even know I existed for any other reason but to hear about his problems. Why I was even leaving with him was a mystery but I really wanted to go. Every year the Air Force base has a special show for the public and I really wanted to go. When Lynn asked me to go, I was shocked! He never asked me to go out in public with him, except for special occasions. So I agreed to go with him because nobody else could go.
We arrived to a big line of cars waiting to get in, which made lynn mad, and I heard about his anger for the rest of the car ride. The first 15 minutes of the ride all I heard about was how tired he was and how early I made him get up. I wanted to scream at him but instead I just sat there in silence.
We finally parked and walked through security and then he became excited to be here. Planes were his passion, everything about them. I was determined to be excited as he told me everything I could ever want to know about them, and more. To be honest I wasn't paying attention, but he would never notice that. We saw about 10 different planes and then sat down for the air show, which was amazing. I could not wait to see the thunderbirds which was the last part of the show.
Lynn suggested that we go walk around a little bit during the intermission and I followed along. We went into one of the building that has a bunch of the weapons for show. Lynn walked one way and I walked another to go see something else that interested me. A few minutes later I felt a hand grab my shoulder and pull me backward. I turned around, mad and a little scared because I didn't know who it was, only to find out it was Lynn. He was red with anger. "you can't just leave me like that."
"What do to mean?" I said looking around, shocked an totally embarrassed by his outburst. I noticed people were looking our way, including an Air Force man that looked like security.
"You walked off and didn't tell me. What made you think you could do that?"
I try to get my shoulder out of his grip because a shooting pain is starting to get out of control. "I'm on a military base, what do you think is going to happen? I'm not a child, or even your responsibility. Get your hands off me." I try to shrug my shoulder away again but he just grabbed it harder.
He put his mouth to my ear and whispered loudly, "don't you ever talk to me like that again, do you hear me?"
In that moment the young security guy that was watching earlier stepped in. "what is going on here? Sir you need to let go of her now. She asked you once to let go and you haven't yet."
"This is none if your concern. We didn't ask for your help."
"The fact that you are hurting this lady is my concern. I'm going to have to ask you to leave this property and if you do not do so this instant then I will escort you out. Did I make myself clear?"
I looked at Lynn and he pushed me away and stomped off. He turned back a second. "Are you coming?"
"Not with you." I didn't actually know how I was going to get home but I refused to go with him.
"Your a stupid bitch." he yelled over his shoulder.
I was so embarrassed I ran the other way and tears rolled down my cheeks. I didn't know where to go or even who to call. I sat down on a bench and made myself stop crying. Before I knew it, the security guy was sitting next to me. He was looking down on me with concern in his eyes.
"Are you okay?"
I quickly wiped my tears away and stood up, trying to pretend like nothing happened. Didn't he see that this was embarrassing enough? I looked up at him and I finally got to see his facial featured. He was really good looking, and looked my age. He was just a little bit taller than me. "umm.. I'm fine. Thanks for your help." I turned away fast before I could get caught starring again and started to walk away. I didn't understand why this guy left his stand to come check on me. What did he want?
"You don't seem fine." he said once he caught up to me.
"I am! You dont have to worry. I'll be fine."
"I get off of work in 30 minutes, do you want to finish watching the airshow with me and then let me take you home?"
"Why do you want to take me home?"
"You are a nice girl that needs help, I'm not giving you much of an option. You need to get home, and I need a break from being on the base. It's an equal trade."
"I'm not a damsel in distress. You dont have to do this."
"I want to."
I look at him and stop walking. "I don't understand why you are being so nice but thank you. I'll pay you for the gas."
"That won't be necessary. I'm Matt."
"I'm Alley."
"I'll meet you at the building right there with the red roof in 20 minutes" he said as he pointed to the building.
"Okay." He started to walk away and I couldn't help but watch him.
