whoever thought this would be her downfall?
whoever thought

for once in her life
hermione loved more than books.
she loved a girl.
a girl with hair,
long hair,
wavy,
catching crystals of silky sunlight.
a girl with hair
as long and soft as her eyelashes,
a beautiful
dirty blonde.
Hermione tried her best to train her eyes on the tall, handsome boy in front of her. No, not a boy- a man. She tried to excite herself with prospects of kissing this stranger, running her hand along his sharp jawline, along his sinewy muscles. But alas, nothing could distract her from the girl with the floating hair.
Hermione didn't know her name; all she knew was that as soon as she laid her eyes on her and heard her soft, high voice, she had butterflies. And not the kind that makes you nauseous, but the pleasant kind. The kind that makes you feel warm, that makes you want to stare. She shook her head in a vain attempt to clear it, trying for the millionth time to convince herself that this was nothing more than a jealous admiration and a desire to be friends. Hermione was smart and talented and tenacious, but there was one thing about herself she could never change : she was lesbian.
The words felt new and strange on her tongue as she mouthed the them to herself. Her attention was diverted for a moment, as the first-years were directed towards their dorms. She wondered at the beauty of the great hall, its stormy ceiling mirroring her confusion inside. The candlelight played off of everybody's eyes, hilighting their noses and giving them false halos. The purity implied by such an angelic image was only offset when Hermione observed her own drab hair and school-issued robes. Such was her lack of self esteem that she longed to look at something more beautiful...
And again, her eyes lingered. Her eyes lingered on dirty blonde hair.
