Lucy gasped as the shining doll came into her sight, it was so beautiful! She had wanted one since she was three years old, and even though that was only four years from now, it still felt like a long time.
She pressed her face against the glass, her steady breath making tiny fog spots against the window. Her pink tinted nose pressed against the window, she didn't mind the other people staring at her, she was too busy being in awe of the doll in front of her.
She was yanked away harshly by her scarf by none other than her mom. She slightly choked as the scarf pressed against the front of her neck, cutting off her air supply. She used her little hands to separate as much space as she could between her neck and the scarf, her eyes closed tightly as she tried to swallow some oxygen.
"What the f... did I tell you about staring at that da.. doll?!" Her mother's raspy voice yelled at her.
"I-im sorry m-mommy" Lucy whimpered out as her cheeks were stained with tears. Her mom caught a glimpse of her crying and smacked her upside the head, earning a Yelp.
"Shut up, don't be such a cry baby." Her mom scolded her.
"Sor-" Lucy started but was soon cut her off saying "only weaklings apologize!"
Lucy nodded and wiped her tears but only more came streaming down. She didn't understand what she did wrong or what might have caused her mom to hate her so much but she did and Lucy could do nothing about it, no matter how much she did for her mom or how much she tried to show her love for her.
Her mom roughly grabbed her little hand and dragged her along with her. Her arm hurt so much but she knew if she said anything she would get a lot more pain than just her arm.
She was dragged along for quite a while until she was brought into a gross smelling store, it had green LED lights that were in the shape of a thin maple leaf. The same leaf was plastered on almost everything in the store, there was rough music blasting near where her mom was taking her.
She bunched up her scarf over her ears with her free hand, but it wasn't enough and her ears started popping, causing her to let out small cries of pain as the music only got louder and louder.
Her mom came to a halt in front of a man behind a counter. From what Lucy could see the man had a spiky purple mohawk that went along with the spike spacers he had in his ears, he had dark makeup around his eyes and piercings all over his face, some along his cheekbones and others looping around his lips and eyebrows.
Lucy took this opportunity to stand on her top toes so that her arm could be put at least a little at ease.
The man had a slurred tone and his eyes looked a little pink. Lucy closed her eyes and she made a prayer for the man.
Her mom grabbed something off the counter that looked like a little white and blue box with a camel on it. Lucy liked camels, they made her think of big horses with two hills on their backs.
Her little smile faded as her mom pulled out little paper tubes that were in the camel box, she knew exactly what they were and she didn't like them because whenever her mom messed with them she would get hurt, either by fire that had been set at the end of the tubes or her moms hand smacking against her face for no reason.
The guy Lucy had prayed for told her mom a price and her mom scoffed and gave him the amount before dragged Lucy out again.
She halted again outside and sat on a bench that was against the wall of the store. Lucy rubbed her arm as her mom let go of her, the spot where she had gripped tightly was stinging and her shoulder felt sore.
Her mom took out a little metal square, she flipped the top off and a flame appeared at the tip. Lucy stretched her legs in case she needed to run from her mom, all from experience she had learned that most of the time pleading and trying to reason doesn't work, she has become quite the little speedo and people at her elementary school were jealous of how fast she could run, but she didn't think they would be jealous if they knew why she had gotten so fast.
