There was a bright flash in the sky, and then a loud crash came from out of nowhere. The rain, no, hail, was bucketing down. The wind lashed out.

He pulled his hood up over his head and hitched his rucksack further up his back, trudging through the muddy mess of a football oval. His trainers were soaked, and hair plastered to his head obscured most of his vision.

He kept thinking what would happen in the morning, when his sister woke up, at first she'd think he was pulling a prank. Then the hours would wear on. And she become panicky, then she'd tell mum and dad, that is, if mum was still there. Then they'd alert the police. And their warm, welcoming little house would become a crime scene. That is, if he didn't get caught first.

A bright flash of light coming from the road blinded him. It was a car, a police car. It pulled over onto the side of the road, and the cop came out, struggling with an umbrella. He walked up to the boy, "Hey kiddo", the man said kindly, but with a fraction of suspicion in his eyes, "Whaddaya doin' out, without an umbrella I might add, at this time of night?"

"I was taking a walk", he replied.

"A pretty wet walk mate", the cop continued, "You can't be over 15, whaddaya parents doin' letting you out this late on ya own? And on a night like this anyhow?", he questioned.

"I'm just on my way home from a friend's" The boy lied, quite convincingly, "this is a shortcut, didn't realise I'd get quite so wet."

He began to offer the boy a ride home, but he refused, making a point of how close to home he was. The policeman looked at the boy, nodded, and got back into his car. Just as he was about to drive off he stopped, "Hey mate," he called out, over the roar of the rain, "what's ya name?"

                                                           "Peter", he replied, "Peter Pan"

A laugh rang out from the cop, "Do you have a last name, Peter Pan?"The boy stared blankly, "Yes, it's Robinson-Ford" he said in a dead sounding voice.

The cop seemed statisfied with that, and drove off.

Peter started running.

That's the first chapter, I promise it gets better. There is quite a complicated backstory that is slowly explained later. But really, I'm just getting started. The next chapter is far more exciting.
