Cain.
Of all the damn demons in existence.Cori was practically royalty. But she didn't give a damn. She was cursed as far as she was concerned. From the day she was born.
The angels didn't want her, oh no. And the demons? Well, she hated the lot of them.
"Yeah, well...," Dean started as they started their walk through the woods, "I needed that damn mark."
Cori scoffed, pulling the Buck knife from her boot. "And look where it got ya.""God damn, Cordelia," Dean hissed, stopping in his tracks.
"Keep your voices down," Sam whispered. He felt like a babysitter when Cori and Dean were together.
"Hey Moose?," Cori said, a sarcastic lift to her voice, "mind your own."
He simply rolled his eyes and moved in front, spotting the little cabin. "How many, Cor?," he asked softly and she stopped, trying to focus.
"I count three," she told him, "no Alpha, unfortunately."
It was the Alpha they wanted. The hardest to take out.
The rustling from behind them stopped them in their tracks. Female, vampire.
Snarling, she looked at Cori, fear in her dark eyes. "What the hell are you?," she asked, drawing back. They always did.
"Oh, I'm your worst nightmare, Sweetheart."
Dean couldn't help but smirk to himself as Cori easily took down the vampire, barely breaking a sweat. She was good, too damn good, but he'd never tell her that.
Wiping the blood from her face off onto her jeans, she tucked the knife away and treaded toward the cabin without a word.
"Let me in first," Dean announced and Cori laughed. "Such a gentleman, aren't ya, Winchester?," she asked and he sighed heavily.
Here we go again.
"And you're a fuckin' pain in my ass," he replied.
"You two!," Sam snapped and kicked the door in. Looking at Dean, he held a hand out, ushering him in. "You first."
Cori moved closer, pushing her way in, immediately taking out the first vamp. Dean let out an exasperated sigh and entered the cabin, taking off for the stairs.
"You'll give him a heart attack one of these days," Sam groaned, kicking the vamp to make sure it was dead. "I don't know why the two of you can't get along."
"You know why," she quipped.
"Yeah, yeah. I just thought...," Sam started and she looked at him, brow cocked. "Never mind."
"Look Sam," she sighed, turning to look at him. "I appreciate it. I do," she said, noting the look on his face, "but if we stayed together, we woulda killed each other and you know it."
"Two down," Dean announced, his shirt covered in blood as he made his way down the stairs.
"That's all of 'em," Sam replied, walking out of the cabin. He was tired and he hadn't lifted a finger.
Cori threw her weapons into the trunk and took one last look at the guys, her gaze lingering on Dean, who gave her a quick wave before driving off.
God knew she loved him. She'd always love him.
But she was right, they'd kill each other.
She wasn't any good for him. Hell, she wasn't any good for anyone and this life? Well, it wasn't conducive to a relationship. There was no normal for a hunter.
Especially her.
Sitting in the car, she put her head in her hands. She didn't cry, no she was too tough for that. Even a broken heart couldn't cause tears. And even if she could, she wouldn't give Dean the satisfaction of crying over him.
Cori was exhausted and all she wanted was to go home. Her real home, but that wasn't an option anymore. Heaven was dying, and no one could save it. Not even her.
No, everything was so fucked up.
She could call on her mother, but she doubted she'd answer. Besides, Cori had no idea where she was. The angels had fallen, spread out. She could be anywhere. And she knew she'd be no help anyway.
Her dad? Well, he was gone. Good riddance.
