MAGNUS POV

I felt the spear before I saw it. A loud crackling noise ambushed my ears as I was struck in the back, the armour I was wearing padded the impact of the massive, enchanted blade. Scorching, white-hot pain struck my every nerve and I was blinded by the feeling of electricity coursing through my body. I stood there, dazed and unable to see the person who had attacked me. Then, with a yell, I was sent into the ground by another smack from someone's shield.

'Boss? You alright?' Jack asked. His voice sounded so far away.

'Boss... Boss?' I stared at the stars above, or maybe they were the ones clouding my vision and my ability to see. My vision blurred and the darkness began to close in.

"So, this is the new kid? Looks like a runt." A figure holding a glowing red spear loomed over me. As my vision focused in on them, I could make out the red plume and strands of red hair hanging loosely over her face. It was the red haired girl from the red cabin Annabeth had been talking about. And about six other people.

"This blows." I groaned, struggling to get up. A foot was raised as one of the Ares kids tried to kick me back, but I was ready. Growing up in Boston, a lot of people tried to mess with the homeless. Some took it. Others rose to the occasion, which is what I was doing. Rising to the occasion to punch this jerk in the face. I grabbed their leg and launched off the ground with my feet. With a strangled yelp of surprise, the Ares kid fell onto his side. I fumbled with their helmet to pull it off and punched the kid in the face.

"Get the runt!" The red-haired girl yelled. I turned around to see two charging at me at the same time. I ducked under the swing of a sword, extending my body into a dive over another which had been aimed at my thighs. Landing with a roll, my hand found Jack's hilt and I lifted him up.

"You alright, Boss? That was a pretty hard hit you took." The sword said.

"Peachy." I replied.

"Well in that case, let's show these posers what happens when they mess with us, eh?"

"Lets." I uttered and charged at the two who had attacked me. The one closest aimed a stab at me. With help from Jack, I knocked his blade aside, keeping it locked onto mine. Pushing forward, our blades rang out as they grinded against one another until my blade was pressed against his crossguard. With a quick, fluid motion, Jack twisted and swerved around the other kid's sword and unlatched it from his grasp, launching it aside.

"No hard feelings darling, right!?" Jack called out to the sword as it slammed into the water.

"Focus, Jack!" I yelled as I narrowly avoided another stab attempt from the other Ares child, I quickly moved Jack's flat around and smacked them in the gut, sending them back a few steps.

The one I had disarmed used this as a distraction and went in for a tackle. With a yell, I prepped my sword, the flat end facing them as they charged

"MOOKIE BETTS SPECIAL, COMIN' UP!" I yelled. Then I swung the sword around. A loud, metallic CLANG rang out and echoed through the forest. The camper fell, holding their helmet as it continued to whine like a gong.

"OUTTA the park!" I screamed, almost celebrating, before remembering that there were still 6 enemies left. I turned in time to parry a strike from Clarisse, electricity still running up and down my arm. Jack forced his way along the shaft of her weapon, before catching in a notch of the wood.

'Take this, ya' freak." Jack yelled in my head, but I wasn't sure if he was talking to Clarisse or her spear. Almost instinctively, I leant against Jack, forcing her spear to swing to the side, slipping from her grip. The spear clattered against the ground and I slammed Jack's hilt against the bridge of her nose. With an enraged cry of pain, Clarisse stumbled back and fell in the creek with her half-sibling's sword.
