The Basement

I had already lived at this house for 2 years, and I had only went in my basement one time, and I had only made to the bottom of the stairs before I chickened out, and ran back up the stairs. I've never seen my basement, there weren't even windows that I could look in. So I decided I was going to explore the basement sense no one has been down there since the last people lived here.

First I had to find the key which was somewhere in my closet. When I found the key it was dust covered which was like a punch in the gut showing how scared I really was. It was hard to shove the key into the lock, but finally it went in. The door screeched like a dying cat I couldn't see a thing. When I near the bottom of the steps I run into a chain. I pull it, and a dingy light starts to flicker on. Then saw the maze of boxes and junk. The basement was much bigger then I thought it was. There was easily 2 hundred boxes they where piled against what I thought was a wall. Some towers so high, and so poorly constructed that they might fall if you are to blow on them. The whole maze was full of junk i've never seen before. Their were old movie posters, record players, old books, and toys. There was a grand ivory bookshelf with many beautifully crafted shelves but it had only one book on it. I started to open it when I heard a short ring. I jumped up in fright, but I realized it was only the doorbell. After my heart stopped uncontrollably beating I set the book down, and worked my way through the maze of boxes, and ran up the stairs. When I opened the door I saw an old man probably in his late 60s. He was very tough looking, and looked like he was blind in one eye. He broke the silence "Hello my name is Adam, I use to live here, and I think that I left something that is mine" he said in a very gruff voice, sounding like he had smoked many packs of cigarettes inhis life. "Well where in the house is it" I responded. "because I don't believe I have seen anything that isn't mine" I added "In the basement I believe" he answered. "Makes sense that place is a maze I bet there is something you left." I said jokingly, but he didn't seem to find it funny. So I took him down to the basement, but when I got downstairs I grabbed the book, and hid it in my pocket so I could read it later. He looked around for a little bit. He ended up at the grand bookshelf examining it looking at the spot where the book was. Looking closely at how there was no dust where I picked up the book from. He ended up taking a small shoebox. He said he found what he was looking for, but I could tell there was something else he wanted. When he was walking away I could see inside the box, and I saw multiple knives and an odd assortment of other weapons. When he left he drove away in a black car with tinted windows, and no licence plate. After I got inside I ate some steak for dinner, and after dinner at sat down next to my fireplace, and started to read the book. The book ended up being a diary, and it was Adam's. It said some very gruesome things about him killing people.

I quickly stopped reading, and ran to the phone, and pushed 9, and then 1, but right when I was about to push the last 1 all of the lights went out. I heard noises in the basement. I grabbed a bat of my shelf which I had from years of baseball. When I was walking toward the basement I saw out the window, and Adams black car with tinted windows, and no licence plate was sitting in my driveway. Even though I was scared half to death, I continued downstairs. When I got downstairs I didn't see Adam so I started silently walking through the boxes. By the time I had looked through the maze of boxes, I still hadn't found Adam. Then the door slammed shut upstairs, and I heard a loud gruff laugh that sounded just like Adam. I ran up to the door to see if he locked, and he did. I couldn't think of anything, but then I thought About how Adam had a shoebox with knives, so maybe he had some other weapons. I looked through boxes, and boxes, and I Mostly found old pictures of corpses, that made me throw up in the corner. After about fifteen minutes of searching I found a small blood stained hatchet. I knew I had to get out of here before Adam came back down to kill me. I ran up the stairs, and with the hatchet I hit the doorknob off. The door slowly creaked open, everything seemed right, but then I saw the bloody butcher knife on the kitchen counter. Then I saw out the window that Adam was at his car getting something. I knew I only had about 30 seconds before he came back in I decided to run to my room upstairs, and call the cops on my cell phone. When I was running upstairs, and was almost at the top of the stairs when door opened, and the door was right at the bottom of the stairs. Right when he saw me he said "How'd you escape", and then started chasing me. When I got to my room I slammed the door shut, and locked the door shut. I knew this wouldn't hold him sense he had all sorts of weapons so I pushed my bookshelf in front of the door. I heard him smashing some kind of wooden object into the door, as I dialed 9-1-1, but it said I had no signal I decided that I had to jump out the window. Luckily when I had moved in here my mom had made me have a rope ladder in case there was a fire, and I had to get out the window. So I took the screen out, and opened the window as far as possible. I attached the ladder to the windows threshold, and dropped the rest of the ladder out of the window. While I was climbing down the ladder I heard the bookshelf fall down, but luckily I didn't hear him open the door until I was at the bottom of the ladder. I was already running by the time I heard Adam noticed that I had left the room. I had decided to run to my neighbors house that lives behind me. While I was running through my yard I noticed something chasing me. When I looked I saw a huge german shepherd in my fenced yard. I was guessing that Adam had brought his vicious dog, and put it in my dog into my yard in case I tried to escape. The dog was around 10 yards away from me so I had a small headstart, but I knew he would catch me at some point. The fence wasn't to far away, so I was pretty sure I could make it, but when I when I grabbed it I was electrocuted worse than I ever have. Adam must have been pumping electricity through the fence in case I made it to the fence. The pain was so bad I fell over on my said groaning in agony. What scared me even worse was that the german shepherd was about to catch up to me, but somehow the dog just stopped in his tracks. I wondered why, and then I saw Adam walking out my back door with a small remote that must have connected with the dogs collar. He started to walk slowly towards me, while laughing with his evil, gruff laugh. The electric shock hurt so bad I started to blank out. I tried to stay awake, because I knew he would immediately kill me, but I couldn't stay awake.

I was surprised when I woke up that I was still alive, I thought it all must have been a dream until I was more aware of my surroundings. I was strapped to a metal chair with belts, and I was in my kitchen. My counter was covered in knives, chains, and other torture devices. Adam walked out from the basement, and said "Good you're awake, now we can start" in his gruff voice. "Start what" I responded in a scared voice. I knew that the chair

wasn't attached to the ground so if he left I could try to escape, I also knew I had to go out the front door, because his dog was inside the fence which inclosed the backyard. He started to stare at me, and started to sharpen a small knife. He was about to do something to me with the knife when he cursed under his breath. He said out loud that he didn't put a tarp under the chair to catch the blood. He went into the basement I started to slowly slide the chair towards the counter with knives. I was able to grab a knife that was small enough to hide it from Adam.

First I cut the belt of my hands, then I cut the belt of my waist, then finally my legs. When I heard him start to come back up the stairs I made it look like the belts were still on me. He luckily didn't notice, and started to walk towards me. When he got about a foot away I kicked him to the ground then, as he was struggling to regain his balance I kicked him again. His head whipped back, and slammed into the ground, and he lost all consciousness.

I ran upstairs, then straight out of my front door, and then to my neighbors door, and started repeatedly knocking on the door. When he opened the door I said nothing to him, and ran straight past him, and to his phone I punched in 9-1-1 before he could protest. The phone rang once, it rang twice, then "9-1-1 whats your emergency" said the voice on the other end of the line. I started talking a mile a minute "THERE IS A SERIAL KILLER IN MY BASEMENT HE IS KNOCKED OUT, BUT HE WONT BE FOR LONG, SEND A ENTIRE SQUAD OVER RIGHT..." My neighbor had unplugged the phone. He started to yell at me for running into his house, and using his phone. So I started to explain everything that happened, and I was about to finish when we started to hear sirens so we ran straight outside, and 2 cop cars were driving straight towards us. When they pulled into the driveway they jumped out of the car. I told them on how Adam was in the basement. They rushed in without saying a thing. As me, and my neighbor waited outside. We heard some banging around in the basement. So we decided to go, and see what's happening. As we walked downstairs we saw a empty chair, and the cops were looking around the boxes. My neighbor, and me asked the same question at the same time "Where is Adam" the taller police answered "He's gone", and then he pointed to a small passageway in the corner that used to be covered with boxes, and it led to a steep incline that went outside in to my backyard, I quickly scaled the incline, into my backyard.

I looked around, and in the far corner the fence had been broken. There was a wire cutters right next to the rip in the fence. My head couldn't even process what had just happened, and then it hit me. Adam had escape, and he was still out there, out there to terrorize others like he did to me...
