After all the children had gone inside, with William and Margot in the back, the young teacher looked around panicked, due to not seeing Margot again. But seeing her signature low ponytail, she breathed a sigh of relief. Then, she noticed the room. It was dreary and gray, almost monochrome. The only sign of light was the fluorescent lamps, casting a muted white light around the room. The teacher then started looking around at the students who were pitifully trying to create small talk, but failing due to the thick tension in the room. Soon all the chatter died out. It was quiet, uncomfortable. The teacher shifted, waiting.
Suddenly Paula burst out, "William should be punished!"
Margot swiftly looked over, "No Paula! It's okay! I forgive him!" She cried. Suddenly, the room burst into yells. People took sides, while William was quiet the entire time. Finally the teacher stood.
"Everyone!" She yelled. "That is ENOUGH," Everyone stopped talking to look at her. "Margot, william, you have False Recreation Time," The children started whispering. F.R.T? That's bad right? They asked. But what did Margot do? They pondered. Margot was close to tears. She ran out of the room, eyes misty, closely followed by William.
Margot was running. She didn't know where in the school, but she was doing it, oblivious to one blond haired boy trying to find her. The tears were spilling now. She slowed, feeling the salty trickle of water down her cheek. Now walking, she found herself at the simple supply closet she was in, minutes before all this happened. While in contrast to before, she was no longer in a panic, which allowed her to finally observe her surroundings in a calm fashion. She noticed a simple shelf with files on the students, teachers, staff, and types of glass cleaner. She backed towards the wall and slid down. She sat there, staring at the linen walls. She sat there until most of her limbs fell asleep. She was trying to think of what false recreation time could be when the door creaked. It slowly opened to reveal a mop of honey blond hair and eyes laced with curiosity.
"Margot?" A desperate voice called. "Margot!" William cried. He walked gingerly over countless knick-knacks so as to not shove them over. He sat down in front of her, and looked up. Peering at Margot's face, he noticed her cheeks harbored steady drips of dried up tears, peppering her features as if painted by a shaky handed artist. There was comfortable silence between them, neither wanting to break the fragile spell that was not talking.
William suddenly glanced up, noticing a black speck in Margot's hair. "Hey Margot," He said, delicately. "I'm going to take something out of your hair, okay?" Margot nodded, allowing him to reach over to pick a fleck of black from her hair. "Your-," William cut himself off. "Actually nevermind." he stopped, nose scrunching up and eyebrows turning down, waiting a moment before saying, "I am sorry, you know. I just- I just got jealous, i guess?" He glanced down, idly twirling circles with his fingers, legs crossed. Margot looked at him, and saw tears billowing in his eyes. She brought her finger up to his face and tilted his chin up.
"William, don't cry," She said, catching a tear as it fell. "You know I forgive you, I told you that when we were outside,"
William sighed, "I know, but i guess i don't forgive myself," Margot laughed, and poked william on the shoulder.
"Well you should, it's not a big deal anymore!" Then she paused. "At least to me it's not. Paula is another story," She giggled. William laughed,
"Friends?" He said, holding his hand out for Margot to shake.
"Friends," Margot said, smiling. A few minutes later, The children and the teacher were then very upset to have found them laughing together with a spark of love in their eyes in the stupid supply closet.
The end UwU
(P.S. Paula was a bridesmaid)
