*BEEP BEEP BEEP*
I sprung up from my uncomfortable bed feeling just as tired as I did when I first fell asleep.
Shit.
My alarm was way off, my phone woke me up 10 minutes before I had to head out to work.
Fuuuuuuu-
I slammed my phone onto my wooden nightstand after hitting the "dismiss" button and scrambled to the bathroom.
Luckily I always laid my clothes out the night before so I had time for a quick shower.
I quickly brushed my hair and pulled it up so it wouldn't get wet and jumped into the shower.
I quickly washed with my eucalyptus bar soap and jumped right out, wrapping a yellow, fluffy towel around me.
I slid into my room, careful not to knock down anything in my path and grabbed a new deodorant from a plastic bag. I rushed back into the bathroom to apply the deodorant.
I quickly did and brushed my teeth.
I dashed out, almost falling down from my poor footwork.
I slipped on my pants and quickly buttoned up my shirt.
I slid on my jacket while pulling my hair into a more presentable low bun. I swiftly unplugged my phone and pulled it into my small handbag and grabbed my metro card from off the countertop.
I sprinted out the door and down the street as i head to the subway station. Once i actually got there i checked my phone.
Phew.
I made it with 1 minute to spare.
I quickly got through the crowd and ran onto the subway, sitting on the seat at the end.
The subway was (oddly) empty, with the exception of a man on the other side.
He was minding his business so I had no real reason to bother him.
I pulled out my phone to check twitter.
I scrolled and scrolled, my timeline was mostly the New York Post or Washington post. I didn't follow any pop culture celebrities, most of my social media is more business than anything, but my friends do send memes from time to time.
After a bit of scrolling and me reading some articles we arrived at my stop.
I rushed out and maneuvered my way out of the station.
I sprinted across the crowded streets and made my way into my work building.
"Y/n, you're late." Erica (she works reception) bluntly stated.
"No, I'm not, "I pulled out my phone and checked the time.
"I still have two minutes."
"Well, then get going!" She shouted.
I put my phone back in my handbag and ran into the meeting room.
We had a huge project that we had to sketch out.
I was one of the top architects in my branch, I was always getting work piled on me by lazy co-workers.
We had to design a freaking apartment complex, this was gonna take a while.
"Y/n. You look exhausted, are you ok? We can take over for today if you want? You deserve a break." Said one of my co-workers, he was the only one who did any real work other than me, his name was holden.
"I umm," i thought for a moment, "umm ok, are you sure you don't need help?" I asked.
"No just go home, we can take over." He persisted. I accepted his offer and headed back to the front.
"Y/n, where are you going?" Erica asked,
"The team took over," I said without looking back at her.
I had just moved into a new apartment 3 days ago so i was still exploring the place.
The new transit to work was shorter but my apartment always felt....off.
There is a closet in the hallway that led to my room for, what i assume, coats and hats.
But i never opened it, it always seemed like it was the cause of the tension in the house.
I headed back to my apartment on the metro, it was a lot quieter than before.
I fumbled with my keys as i entered my apartment, i still had to unpack so why not take the opportunity.
I walked in and realized how hungry i was. I groaned, Placing my things on the kitchen counter and walking back out to walk to the bodega across the street so i can buy some groceries.
As soon as i walked in i was startled by a man yelling.
"y/n!" Yelled the man, i turned to look at the owner of the heavy New York accent.
"Hey, Eddie! " it was my best friend Edmund. I hadn't seen him in a while so it was refreshing to see his face.
"How's it going?" He asked
"Nothing much, i just moved into the apartments across the street."
His eyes lit up,
"Hey, if that means we get to talk more often then I'm down." He chuckled out, i laughed along with him.
I walked to the produce section and started picking up some things to make for dinner tonight and breakfast when i get back.
I picked up everything and went to go check out.
"So, you don't have work today or?.." Eddie questioned expectantly,
"Oh, no my team took over for today so i left early."
"Ahh ok," Eddie said.
"There ya go, see ya next time y/n!" He said, handing me a bag filled with my groceries.
"See ya!" I shouted out as i left.
I walked across the street to my apartment complex to put everything away.
I left my door unlocked since i was only going to be gone for at most 10 minutes. I opened the door and walked in. I locked the door and placed everything on the countertop and began to put everything way.
Once i was all finished i finally got around to making something to eat.
I made a simple eggs and toast, i scarfed it down along with some swigs of water. I finished and placed my dish in the sink and sprinted to my room to begin unpacking. First, i needed to start with my clothes.
Shirts go in my closet so i left them in a pile.
Pants go into the top drawer so i began folding them and placing them inside.
Coats, they go in the hallway closet.
I took my box of coats and trotted into the hallway, losing my confidence with every step.
The closer i got the faster my heart would beat, it felt like a bird slamming around in its cage when i was facing it. I opened the door just to be met with a handwritten note on a worn-out piece of paper stuck to the wall by wax.
It read,
"I call upon the power of time
Take me from here
To there from a world of time
Transport me from here to the place inside my mind."
I stared at it for a bit,
I thought to myself"wow, the last owners are some crazy people, " but i remember, these apartments were just built, I'm the first owner of this apartment. Where could this note have come from?
I read it over and over again to try and make sense of it.
Over and over, nothing clicked, i read it out loud.
The room suddenly got very cold, i felt nausea, my head was throbbing, my legs became weak, my breathing hurt, i felt like the walls were closing in, i collapsed, my eyes slowly fluttering shut.
Dark,
Am i, dead?
