I stumbled upon a spiral stairwell going up. An alarm went off and red flashing lights filled the empty stairwell. I ran up and up but a few humans got in my way. They had guns and started to shoot at me. 'No, they are not going to stop me I'm already this close to freedom.' I leaped up the side of the stairwell to them. It was exciting seeing fear take over them as they shot mostly missing. I threw them down the middle that went to the bottom floor, 'no one can get in my way I won't let them'. Their screams went quite followed along with a thud.

There was a bolted door on the ceiling, it was hard to open. I clawed and screamed in frustration but eventually, the stone crumbled making the door open up. As I pushed it up a bright warm light hitting my skin. It was comforting, I can get used to this. The fresh smell of morning due filled my nose, tall green trees just in the distance. It was soft under my feet, the fresh air was wonderful I never smelled so many nice things before.

A sharp pain hit me and I heard the humans yelling at each other as they piled out the hole I came from. Anger took over and I let out a loud ear-piercing scream. I picked up a large log, it was surprisingly light, I threw it at the humans then ran for the forest. I ran not wanting to get caught, they aren't hard to kill but their guns and shooting me with electricity was annoying, making it more difficult to kill them and a chance I can get caught.

I ran for days making sure they won't find me I can't go back I love it out here. There were some buildings and I approached them cautiously and it reeked of those disgusting humans. It was a town full of them, they all had gas masks on. I stalked them through the trees.

Something grabbed my leg and I let out a loud growl as I spun around quickly to see what it was. It was a small human, she had short curly hair and a gas mask on. She looked up at me while hugging my leg. "Doggy" she said excitedly. I snapped at her but she didn't finch, I looked at her confused not a hint of fear from her. 'What is her motive, why isn't she scared of me, why is she not running from me, what does she want from me, is she going to try and take me back there'.

She started to gently pet my fur, I wasn't sure why I didn't hurt her but she seemed different from the rest. I was confused about why she was so gentle and calm towards me but kept my guard up I sat down as she continued to pet me. Her eyes became droopy and she fell asleep leaning on me.

It was kinda nice to not have someone fear you or hurt you. Maybe this human isn't so bad but I will never forget what they did to me and for killing the only one I considered a friend at that horrid place. I finally gave in and to a nap as well. When I woke up it was sunset, I expected the girl to be gone by the time I woke up but she was still asleep by me. I nudged her to wake up before it got too dark. She walked off towards the town leaving me alone again as the night came.

A few weeks went by as we kept meeting up. "Come on, I wanna show you to everyone". I looked away knowing that those humans will just take me back and lock me up. "They won't hurt you... I promise" she said quietly. I decided maybe I'll try since she's being nice to me. I won't be nice because that is just a weakness that will get you killed but I won't attack unless they try something because they are her friends and I don't want to hurt her.

She led me towards the town, as we got closer I kept my guard up the whole time. 'What if this is all a trick, what if this is an act she might not even care. They might try and capture me, I don't want to go back'. I spotted the humans, I didn't smell fear lingering the cool air. I watched every little move they made. They also wore masks just like the little girl.

Weeks turned into months than years past, I decided to stay here and over time I finally learned to trust them. They never tried to hurt me, sometimes they would bring me some animals to eat. They even let me stay in there old abandoned orphanage.
