Part 1: Our Keys

Last week I woke up to find I was the only person left on the planet...
As far as I know at least. I haven't seen any bugs or animals either.
The trees and grass are overgrown, it's wet and humid like a rain forest.

Luckly I know how generators work, and how to flush a toilet when there's no water.
I think I'll be fine as long as I keep moving, there's got to be enough canned food to feed me until I die of old age. And it's not like I'm living particularly uncomfortable, I have light when I need it, and heat. I can watch movies if I want... but after a week I'm starting to wonder... why am I trying to live as long as possible... I don't get it.

I haven't been keeping track of the time, Time means nothing when there's no one else to remind you about time. It becomes night. it becomes day. I remember the first couple weeks. My brain just subconsciously kept track, but it didn't last long.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm still human...
Or if maybe I'm more human.

Do skyscrapers become nature when the last creature on earth regards them as  such? No matter where I am I can tell you exactly what kind of architecture I'll run into just with directions. I don't know if it's memory or instinct, perhaps those two are the same when words mean the same as leaf patterns.

maybe it was that man, with the keys

The man with the keys... Skin dark blues and grey, leather vestments, worn.
His eyes were just scared flesh, but he wore a hat that obscured them, most of the time...
and his keys... his keys looked beautiful. spirals of diamond strips twisting around gold and rose. We bumped into each other in the middle of the night, on my way home from work.
I was absolutely scared shitless, but he was also taken back a bit.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry I didn't see you there."

"Yo-u, dropp-ed  yo-ur Keysss."

I hadn't noticed before, I had my apartment key in my hand, when I was startled.

"Oh thanks, I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have these, haha."

"Th-ey-r  v-ery Be-you-tif-all."

"You think my apartment keys are beautiful? I don't think I see it..."

"I lo-ve keysss" as he reached into his coat pocket, He pulled out his own keys.
Keys that looked so beautiful I could hardly believe they were made by human hands.

"D... Do y-ou lik-e them?"

"Oh, uhm, Yeah actually they look really pretty."

"I g-ot the-m f-or my a-part-ment. Hahahaha"

"Wow, they look so beautiful for apartment keys. Must be a nice place!"

"Oh- oh- oh- s-s-ame to y-ou. Y-ou mu-st li-ve  l-ike a King"
I didn't get it. my keys looked like regular apartment keys, his look way more "King" worthy...

"y-ou ou ou ou- can have them, m-y keys. T-ra-de with me?"
