Rei hesitated. Should she ask Chase who that man was? Or should she pretend nothing happened?
Suddenly, Rei felt something brush against her leg. Tense and feeling jumpy, she flinched so badly, the bush and leaves rustled. It was a stick that broke off from the tree above her.
"WHO'S THERE?!" she heard Chase yell, standing up. Her eyes flashed bright green for a split second.
Dang it.
Rei slowly stood, swaying nervously. "Uh, its me." She stammered, praying Chase wouldn't blast her with a spell or something. Chase's eyes widened and she looked embarrassed. "How much did you see?" She asked, leaning close to her face. "I didn't see nothing," Rei lied.
Chase had a wave of relief on her face, her pale cheeks reforming into color. The two walked to the Old Witch's Tree silently. When she turned to face Rei, her eyes were back into her happy state of sunshiney-ness. "So!" She started, grinning. "You got a book with you?"
Rei grabbed the book from my Infibag, which could carry anything in the possible world and everything all at once. Rei handed her the copy of Flicks and Swishes to Chase, hoping it would exceed her expectations for a spell book. "This'll do. Great." She said, smiling at the cover. "Look, I don't know how 'fake magic' works, but I sure hope you know what you're doing, Chase." Rei muttered, crossing arms. "Everyone thinks and knows i can't do magic just like that. What would they think when i suddenly show up out of nowhere and create sudden magic? People would talk."
"Trust me on this. You'll be perfect."

The next following week, Rei and Chase met up at the same tree and same time for days. Rei went to school with a new trick up her sleeve for the day they would be sorted into groups.
"Now, the grouping chart will be on the school mainboard for you to find your teammates. The mainboard is conveniently in front of our classroom so we will all be walking out to see." Professor Saque explained, pointing out the door. Rei swallowed. She was so screwed even if she was teams with Rei, since no one else liked her.
Her peers started whispering excitedly around her.
"Ooh, I hope I'm with you!"
"Can you believe we have a chance of being with Magnus over there?"
" I know right?"
"What a loser,"
When the moment finally came to see the grouping chart, Rei couldn't believe her eyes.
