"We’ll always be friends. No matter what."
I re-read my most recent text message for the millionth time. I should be happy, no overjoyed, that Justin would always want to remain friends. He is such an amazing guy and I’m lucky to even be apart of his crazy world, but friends? Something about that word didn’t settle right with me. Didn’t he feel something more than friendship?
I knew that he was leaving in a few months to tour Europe, and that me being in Atlanta and him in LA would cause some stress on our relationship, but I didn’t think it’d be impossible. People endured lost distance relationships all the time, what would make ours any different?
“Well, what about Selena?” a voice said from my computer screen, pulling me out of my thoughts.
I had completely forgotten that I was still on Skype with Chaz Somers, one of Justin’s best friends from Canada, and a pretty good friend of mine.
“Huh?” I questioned.
“Selena. Selena Gomez. You know her,” Chaz replied.
“Yes, I know who she is but what about her?” I asked.
“Her and Justin have been hanging out a lot lately and the rumor is, she’s going to St. Lucia with Justin and Ryan,” Chaz said, slightly defeated.
Chaz was still a little upset that his mother had grounded him and revoked his privileges of going to St. Lucia with his best friends. I understood how he felt…well not really since I wasn’t even invited. That still hurt me a little. Why didn’t Justin want me or Christian there? I had yet to ask him.
“Chaz, I highly doubt that Selena is going with them. Why would she? Justin even told me that there is nothing going on between them, they’re just friends,” I said raising my voice.
“Okay, okay, calm down. I didn’t mean to get you riled up. It’s just…you’re one of the closest friends I have besides Justin and Ryan. You’re the only girl I’ve ever really opened up to. I love you and our friendship…I just don’t want to see you get hurt, that’s all. And just as much as I know you, I know Justin just as well. I wouldn‘t put it past him to be secretly dating Selena. I just don’t want you to get your heart broken,” Chaz said sincerely.
“I love you too Chaz. But I know Justin and he would never hurt me intentionally. Maybe he is with Selena, but then why would he be flirting with me? Justin isn’t a cheater. And I just know that there’s something between Justin and I. That’s one of the reasons why I broke up with both Hayden and Tyler, there has always been something pulling me back to him…I can’t give up and I have to believe that he feels this thing too,” I said.
“Well maybe you’re right, but I could be right too. Just wait until he goes and gets back from St. Lucia before you make a move. I wouldn’t want you to get your heart crushed.”
“Okay,” I agreed, feeling a little better but at the same time wondering if Chaz was right.
“Now it’s time to get back to my chores!” Chaz said, faking enthusiasm.
“Yay for punishment!” I said back.
“Bye Caitlin,” he said blowing me a kiss.
I giggled, “Love you Chazzy-Bear,” then I blew him a kiss back.
We disconnected our cameras and I was left alone with my thoughts.
The house was so quiet with Christian at a friend’s house and my parents out on a date night. I petted my cat, Juicy, who was sitting on my lap, and decided to check out Twitter. I brought up my account and started scanning my mentions. Checking my mentions could either be a really good thing or a terrible thing.
