Amelia equal in age to the two of her sisters was not adored or loved by them. The twins found their own way and let Amelia complete their leftover tasks, clean the mess they used to create, cook the food they ate ravenously and iron their clothes as many times they desired to get them ironed. The monthly allowance set aside for the house maid handed each month by Ronald to Celia was spent in satisfying their materialistic desires which ultimately came over as a large amount of myriad work for Amelia, who not only had to do the house chores but receive expletives & ill-treatment from her two sisters who never wanted her to roam freely about the house or particularly in the courtyard but to complete the perfunctory duties and stay upstairs locked up in her room.
Ronald was completely ignorant of such an expenditure of the maid allowance and whenever he came back home in the weekend was satisfied with built-up excuses that were thrown up like, 'Dad! we don't allow her on the weekend, we want to spend each minute with you alone when you're home' or 'We want to cook and work for you when you're here, let not the maid come on these days'. Their father happy to perceive this amount of over joyous love never complained further. Little did he know that all the duties naturally fell upon one of his own daughters for whenever father came, Celia & Delia never made it look like Amelia was not a prominent part of the house, on these days they let her dine with them, even talked to her to uphold an ostensible appearance.

Today, Amelia had cooked the lunch early and was resting in her own room with her eyes shut when Celia barged in and started allegedly accusing her of not cleaning her room in a proper manner.
" You little charlatan, what a cunning ostensible appearance you put up and give us the false perception of sweeping our room immaculately. I can drag you to my room to show you the dirt that sticks to my stone floor, you want to create a sullied environment and wish us to rot in filth! I definitely command you this instant to come and see it for yourself", shouted Celia.

Amelia replied with stern composure, her face looking down ,though confidence flowing out of her words, "Sister", after a brief pause, "I may not be the best but I never evade my duties, any task, be it big or small that I take charge of can never be done in a lazy ignorant manner. I very well remember to have swept your floor immaculate."

" You commit a mistake and then hurl back the complain. Don't you see how well we keep you, with a separate room, food to eat and give our precious old clothes to you to wear. Although the return we get is nothing compared to the amount of benefit you receive from us. We just get a room of mud trail across the floor."

"Sorry, but did you just say a 'mud trail'?", asked Amelia. "Well if it so I think it must have come from the gown that you were wearing this morning. I heard you and Delia talking about that early in the morning."

"You cunning creature! You not only blame me for your fault but eavesdrop what we speak, I don't want to hear more from you, you rot here and forget about your lunch today." Saying this Celia made haste and went outside the room and locked it to prevent her so called sister from coming outside its premises.

Amelia with tear in her eyes ran after her,  "No, you took me wrong. I wasn't blaming you, I thought it could have been a possibility." Saying this she forcefully knocked the door from inside but to no avail. Celia was already climbing down the stone staircase.

Amelia was left alone in her room with a doleful spirit and wet eyes. She was a beautiful girl of nineteen having a magnanimous heart.
Sitting on the floor she tried to console herself and gradually fell asleep.
