It had been a decade since his transformation. Dream and Sci were able to bring back the original Nightmare, though they didn't get rid of his corruption. Nightmare said that he felt better if it was still there because if he didn't he wouldn't be able to protect himself. They tried everything to make him reconsider but they gave up after days.
The little prince stood in front of a mirror, with no shirt on, starring at his arms and rib cage. Cuts were everywhere, all different lengths and sizes, some crossing paths each other and some fresh new ones dripping with crimson blood. Nightmare stood there, staring at himself its hundreds of awful thoughts running in his mind. He blamed them all on his demon.
People HATE you!
Keep going! Add more!
Just die already!
They'll forget you within a minute!
No one is going to be at your funeral!
Then thoughts came the topic of his brother. Nightmare's weak point.
DREAM is using you to get what he wants, kill him!
DREAM never once and never will love you!
DREAM wouldn't care if you're gone!
DREAM doesn't——
Loud knocking sounds can be heard next to him, with a small worried being behind the door.
"Brother! Brother! Are you ok? Are you alright? Why are you crying? Please unlock the door! Do you need my help?" Questioned Dream. "O-oh! I'm f-fine Dream!" Nightmare quickly responded, he started to wash the scars, cover them in a bandage and put his shirt on. "I'm alright Dream, you don't need to worry" Nightmare reassured him when unlocked the door. Dream didn't believe him. Not at all. Nightmare was clearly in a rush to hide something and frowned from the thought.
"Uh...Dream? You ok? Why are you frown—" "Nighty you're hiding something". Nightmare tensed at the sudden interruption and statement. He couldn't let the other know about it, he'll get angry. Nightmare doesn't know why Dream will get angry but he tells himself that over and over again just to keep it away from him. "W-What do you mean? I-I'm not hiding anything!" Nightmare responded, that was a horrible cover-up and he knew it. Dream internally facepalmed when he said that.
"Brother please, just tell me! I don't you t-to keep it to yourself a-again. N-Not l-like *sniff*....please" Dream sobbed he was about to fall onto his knees if Nightmare didn't catch him. Dream softly cried in the other's arms, repeatedly saying sorry to him. Nightmare felt worse. "H-hey Dream, I-I'm sorry, I'm s-sorry! Stop crying please!" Nightmare stuttered. Dream then look at the other's eyes and responded shakily, "just t-tell me what's wrong...please". It took a bit but Nightmare eventually opened up, telling him everything. By the time he was done he was crying, well they both started crying. The guardians hugged each other for the rest of the night, eventually falling asleep in Nightmare's bed.

It has been a week since then. Dream was able to convince Nightmare to open up more; it made him feel better about himself. Since Nightmare was opening up more he was able to tell Dream his feelings. It was best moment of his life. They live as a happy couple!
