DARK SIDE ASSASSIN

The assassin made her way up the slope of the hill, darting from one hiding place to the next. She had watched silently from a treetop as Ahsoka had walked up and towards a small grove of trees at its summit. Then the sounds of a conversation had drifted out.

Do I really need to listen to this drivel? She asked herself. This stupid romance between her target and the traitorous former Senator was both gross to listen to and making her task harder to preform flawlessly.

No. I don’t, she thought.

She could walk away right now, and no one would ever know of what had happened here. After all, she could definitely keep a secret. But her pay and freedom were more important. And besides, she was bored. This mission was filing the gaps in her life, spicing it up, in a way.

And all that talk about Jedi beliefs. It was a while since she had heard them voiced. You needed to be high up on the political ladder to make any kind of change in this new era of dictatorship, and she understood this. Only too well.

It was a silly concept that one insignificant person could change anything in the galaxy. There was only one law of change and prosperity in the new political system: one got by, got rich, or got brushed aside.

But enough time for her thoughts and reflections. Assassin four-oh-one still had a mission to take care of. And she was going to make sure she did it the way she had planned.

It was time to leave. The two sweethearts that were about to make her throw up with their antics weren’t saying anything that would be of interest at the moment. But no matter. Sooner or later, a weakness would become apparent, one that she could exploit.

As she ran soundlessly away from the scene, it hit her. There was already a weakness that she had noticed. What would happen a triangle was to be the set for this stupid love story instead of a straight line? After all, that boy Lux had been staring at Chenai earlier with more than just casual interest.

Yes. This was a find of great importance. What if Lux fell for another? That would leave her Jedi target wide open for a crippling blow, but by then it would be too late. Silly girl. She should never have started this relationship with him. It would prove to be her downfall. Oh, the irony of Jedi wisdom.

She would double her efforts. Now her plan could really be set in motion, and the Jedi ways, along with this miserable group of outcasts and their pathetic leader, would perish in the coming storm.

Revenge was sweet, and the assassin’s wrath strong.

The small stones that start an avalanche, she concluded. Tonight’s stealthy observations had been most… enlightening
